RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

I don't know how many people agree with me here but the more I think about it, the more I realize that Das Festhaus' raising stage was one of the most iconic things the park has ever had. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Das Festhaus' original stage was more iconic and memorable than Big Ben for many park-goers. Das Festhaus truly does feel soulless without it. :(

^ This.  I totally miss it.

BTW, when Fiends in the Festhaus was running in 2011, didn't they add some extra levels/floor space to the left and right of the stage?

Actually, I love the original stage for TIO; however, I love the new stage for Night Beats and Deck the Halls. If only they could switch them out temporarily.

RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

I think they could still have a rising stage, and keep the existing stage at the same time. The stage was designed with the intention of being able to keep stuff under the floorboards. They even kept a hollow round circle where the foundation for the old stage once stood. This makes me think that someone had the intention of keeping the old stage, with a few modifications. I think they could use the space under the floorboards to have rising columns, so they can transition between two types of shows. If Scott is so hell-bent on keeping Entwined, that would be one of my biggest suggestions to him. With today's technology, this is quite possible. If they did this, I might be willing to let Scott stay a whole year.

^What are the consequences for what I just said?

RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

I don't know if this was ever released publicly by the park or otherwise, but the original plans for the new stage called for a large circular opening in the center to be used for live bands and there were even whispers of a possible drop-in rising stage replacement. If you look very closely on the video of the new stage being built (link), you can actually see where they started to build the cutout in the center and then changed their minds and proceeded with a full oval.

The old stage was the heart of the Festhaus.  It was iconic.  It was epic.  One-of-a-kind.  Ingenious.  A feat of engineering that you just don't see anywhere else.  The very centerpiece of the entire building.  To me, I wasn't 'at' the park until I saw the Festhaus stage rising.

I haven't been to the park since it was removed...but the pictures (both before and after) break my heart.  I just can't wrap my head around why someone would destroy such an amazing and eye-catching structure.  You don't just go removing something that is so original and a spectacle in and of itself.  Ok, I'll stop now.  Starting to get to sappy :/

RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

I totally understand how people feel about the removal of the old stage. I know it was a lot more fun to eat at the Festhaus when they had that amazing stage. Also, a lot of family friends used to go with my dad and I and the Festhaus performance was their favorite thing by far. After they took it out and put in Entwined they all stopped going, including my dad. Busch probably lost some customers when they decided to put that ridiculous kiddy show in the Festhaus.

RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

So, is Oktoberfest starting up? I am drawing a blank on the shows returning all weird.

RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

I love to see they brought back the grand marching entrance from outside, that was really something when the old stage used to be there. Although I will deeply miss the cast of TIO 2013, I believe 2014 will be very good too. I love TIO!!!!

RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

And sorry for the double post, but if my eyes spy correctly, I believe they brought back the light blue and dark blue curtains, behind the forest sheet. Those used to be a great decoration! Well, I guess I'll see when I go to the park today, I plan on heading up soon.

RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

Okay, I guess I'll have to be the person who triple posts.

So I was very, very impressed with TIO today. Wow what a great show. I really did feel the spirit of Oktoberfest, it was truly one of the best showings of TIO I have ever seen! While I will miss last year's cast, I believe this year's is just as good. The whole cast this year is sooo enthusiastic, and happy about the show. I never saw a smile leave their faces, and they were huge smiles too. The new lead may not have as strong of a voice as last year's, but he was definitely just as enthusiastic about the show.

There were 2 returning performers from last year.(one in the Oompa band) However, one girl who was in the show, performed in it years ago. She was definitely in the 2011 version, and she may have been in earlier versions, but I can't remember.

The costumes were changed a bit, but they are still very nice, and have a lot more details than last year's. The dresses are a deeper blue, but they have a lot more details in terms of embroidering, and things like that.

Another thing I did notice was that the technicians instead of just having black Entwined shirts, they now have This Is Oktoberfest shirts!

The marching entrance was wonderful! It was yet another gem brought back from TIO's glory years.

The opening dance has changed, I don't know what exactly to think about it, but I like it none the less.

Like CK said, the heart and soul of Das Festhaus has returned! And it is amazing!

I would have loved to clap loudly and have tons of fun, but someone wanted to record :-/ But the debut show seemed very dead, audience wise. There was little to no audience trying to get involved in the show. It was very sad. I was actually excited to see it but the audience just killed my vibe.

It wasn't a busy day. It's not that un-normal.

Don't be afraid to clap along if others aren't. If you do maybe the good spirit will spread!

RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

I agree the cast this year is excellent! Really throwing their hearts into it and "selling" it without being too zany or corny. I was very impressed. Of course, it's early yet; they might not seem so fresh in three months' time, lol -- still, a great kickoff to the season.

RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

Now that I play the trombone I apreciate the music so much more. A few years ago I thought it was just switching the positions on time and the note would come out. Good job to all of the marching band for playing such tough songs! Also, it seems though as if they toned down the chicken dance. I rember actors would run up to your table ask you if you want to dance then you would go up on stage and dance. I'm still happy about how they still have participation in the show because it seems like their is less and less of it found in the park. I hope this shows stays around for a long time. Maybe during Passholder appreciation weekend and HOS they could have a mini Oktoberfest party that would have games, food, and dancing. That would also solve the problem of kids not having an event during the day. Back on topic, my only problem with the show is the stage. That old stage had so many memories...

You know over time the juxtaposition of the Entwined Stage and the TiO Show has really grown on me (but make sure to not focus on the cabin). Don't get me wrong, I miss the rising stage as much as the next Junge but something just seems to work.
