RE: Man pleads guilty to thefts from Busch Gardens lockers

So... uh...

This happened to a friend of mine once. (He was the victim, not the thief. :p) I'm still not willing to pay money for a locker every single time I want to ride a coaster. So now I actually tie a gallon Ziploc bag filled with a baby diaper soiled with dirt and a little lemonade to my backpack whenever I visit the park. It's worked so far.

I left some stuff in one of those un-locked lockers. I don't think I'll do that again.

Me too, and it was recently, had my wallet with all my gift-cards from Christmas in it too. I was worried as sh*t.

So I don't ever resort to leaving my stuff in an un-locked locker I try to save up as many coins as I can, or re-ride a ride as many times in a row so I don't find myself pumping more money into the locker by going back to an attraction I already rode.

It's all about strategy really. It's a shame the don't invest in bins on the un-loading decks like at KD, but that can also open more doors to potential theft.

I wish they would do what they do at KD. I hate those stupid lockers at Busch.

Does anyone know if the park has taken action like this in the past?

There was a security guard standing inside the Verbolten locker building at CT last week. Not sure if that was before or after this incident. He was keeping a close eye on what everyone was doing, though he didn't seem to care when I threw my backpack into an empty locker without paying.

In my defense, I would've left it in a locked locker, but the token machine was un-operational, and my friends were already in line, so I put it in a bottom-corner unlocked one, and hoped for the best. :p

He was probably tracking me. I had my camera out. *still bitter*

Joe... May I... Um... Recommend cargo shorts with buttons? :p

Let's all invest in fanny packs!

Really though, the last thing I'll trust is my pockets. I almost NEVER take my phone on a ride, whether I keep it in a pocket or sit on it....I like to leave room between the restraints and my waist.

Since I would never, ever wear cargo pants, EVER. I just find pants or shorts with long front pockets and shove my phone or wallet down them, then lock my harness on top, and I don't have to worry about it.

pockets are how I lost my very expensive sunglasses. Before you ask yes, I wore expensive sunglasses to the park because they are prescription. cheap sunglasses are not really an option for me.

I've tried that as well, I guess I'm just paranoid.

They should bring back pay phones. Oh wait, that wont work, nobody knows anybody's phone number any more. Guess I'll keep using my button-up pockets that have never failed me. I only use a locker if I'm carrying a stuffed prize around. I don't pay the $1 either.

1. Cabanas come with lockers.
2. The locker systems are better at Cedar Fair and Universal parks.
3. We have had this particular debate many times.
4. Who is surprised that security, which is know to be staffed by bullies, is good at pursuing a theft at the park?

I'm just surprised to see that they're actually channeling it to do some good for once. :p I'd much rather see more of then than hauling fans off for pressing a button on a camera.

Big thumbs up to the park on this one. I wouldn't have been surprised to have seen a lawyer cautioning against their involvement on grounds of then appearing to take responsibility and increasing their liability so good for them for doing the right thing.

Also will add that I never leave anything more than my glasses sovereign cup and on a day of possible rain a poncho in an unlocked locker. This has always been my practice but saved me problems this fall when at Hallowscream I came back from riding to find the fanny pack that I had these thing in had been gone through. Nothing was missing as there was nothing really worth taking but someone had looked through every pocket in into looking for something worth taking. Be responsible for your own stuff if it's valuable then either lock it or carry it safely with you. My chosen method of that is a pair of cargo shorts that have zipped pockets so there is no chance of it slipping out. My wallet keys and phone go in those.

I personally always pay for the locker.

On a related note, you cannot have any loose articles in your pockets on some of the ride at Universal now, but those lockers are free:

It has always been a rule at Universal Orlando that you must stow all loose articles in the free lockers at the entrance to select attractions. Up until now, guests were able to leave items in their pockets, such as their cell phones, or their wallets. Although this was technically not allowed, there wasn’t anyone there to stop it.

Over the past few weeks, Universal has been making guests check their pockets at the entrance to select attractions. While getting in the single rider line for the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, I was stopped at the entrance and told to check my pockets, the team member then proceeded to point to my phone in my pocket and he told me that it had to go in a locker.

This has been happening at Rip Ride Rockit (confirmed), the Incredible Hulk (confirmed), Dragon Challenge (reported), and Revenge Of The Mummy (reported). One guest said that while waiting for Rip Ride Rockit he was stopped three times and told to check his pockets. Another guest said that they were checked multiple times at the Incredible Hulk coaster.

I hope BGW doesn't adopt a similar policy.

Huh, strange. I got stopped at Hulk, but not at anything else. Granted I avoided H:RRR.

What a shame. Petty theft is ridiculous.

At least this didn't happen when my friend and I stowed stuff in the Gwazi lockers without paying. Lol
