At college and on the internet, I've never run across the (beautiful) pictures anywhere besides here and the local news.

Funny enough that you mention college—my computer science professor actually included a picture of Nessie in a lecture a few months back. We were learning about "loops" in coding... get it??

and I would still put the west coaster over lnm for this by a wide margin. Just remember, there are more people livning in CA than VA, NC, and MD combined
That's fair an I'm not going to argue that West coaster isn't well known. I personally had only seen it in movies and had no idea what the name of it was.

Personally I have seen LNM's interlocking loops on countless articles talking about various things with coasters. I have also seen them in the pages of physics and engineering textbooks.

My point is that I feel that because those interlocking loops are so picturesque they have been used all over the place when websites, books, magazines, newspaper, etc. have included a random picture of a coaster. That's why I think while a lot of people wouldn't know what coaster they are from, they will have at least seen a picture of the interlocking loops. Just like me and west coaster. I've seen it but never could have told you the name.

If that's VT most of the students grew up near BG though. Your professor probably knows that.

Off topic, the design on that slide is horrendous. Definitely made by a computer science professor. ?

Not VT but I get that. I just thought that would be fun to share because the topic of college came up, not to suggest it means Nessie is famous.

Boston checking in. Ten years, talked about amusement rides a lot with locals and others from all over. Not a single person mentioned or in any noticeable sense “knew” LNM as I recall, unless they were from MD/DC/VA. Though most of the time it was just a case of LNM not coming up in conversation.

Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain... came up all the time.

Yeah. Grew up So Cal here. All I knew of Busch Gardens was that Double Dare contestants would sometimes win trips there. Never knew of LNM.

I was always aware of Space Mountain and Matterhorn. Always knew of Revolution and Colossus. And to a lesser extent, Montezooma.Vaguely aware that CP had a ton of roller coasters and they were in competition with Magic Mountain for coaster count.

That's about it.

I had forgotten about the DoubleDare trips...

For what it is worth about half the Navy has rotated through Hampton Roads and has then had exposure to Nessie.

Also.. Really wouldn't it be best if EVERYONE had time with Nessie. Think of how much happier everyone would be if they had her in their hearts.

Meh. It's ok.

I know you're half kidding and I lol'd, but I don't think LNM is that great of a ride. I can see how ground breaking it was, and it's a beautiful looking structure but it doesn't do much for me as far as coasters go.

I have to admit I will typically skip LNM, unless I have family or friends in tow who have never ridden her. The first drop is terrific for airtime, the setting is great, and I enjoy the helix. The oscillating chiropractic insanity of the loops and discomfort of the seating position are effectively disqualifying for me. Can’t remember the last time I rode her in the back seat, which is a shame because there is no better row for that first drop. So damned good.

But visually she is beautiful, my go-to ride when pointing out that roller coasters can be art. IMO, aesthetically Nessie is to steel coasters what Golden Gate is to suspension bridges...unfortunately just far less well known.

I really wish the ride experience through the loops could be made more tolerable. It’s hard to pass the queue without jumping in line. Frustrating. Thankfully it seems many people happily ride all the time without issue.

I kept looking at it and trying to figure it out. I wonder how that happened.?

Yesterday was national Opposite Day. Seems as though the social media person that did the post forgot to hashtag that.

I know it's very difficult to see, but from the train right before the Loch Ness trestle, you can see Le Mans Raceway and Nessie under construction through the trees. The straight bit of track is the brake run and station (before the actual station building was built) before the dip down into the pre-lift. I'm guessing there's no lift or drop either because I couldn't spot it.

I have just found a youtube video with 3 povs of nessie. 2 from the same day in 2002 with some effects broken, and the third from 1999 with all effects working!
