Hey Evan.. I am not sure as I did several variations of the same image. I have no idea which one I posted where. You may have seen an earlier pic.. as the one I did in color was the original image I did for the wolf story when it was first published. I changed it to the black and white image because it was more popular with feedback.

I also think I did one similar with the whole hill in a long vertical format.. but that was so long ago I cannot seem to find it. It may have been lost when my old PC crashed a year or so ago.

Is this more like the one you were looking for?

I remember the video in the OP! Wow, that takes me back. When I was young it gave off such a dark vibe.

I miss the Big Bad Wolf. It was my first coaster ride as a kid. I can't remember the age, but I do remember squeezing my eyes shut during the drop over the Rhine. Later years, riding it in the evening, especially in the last car, was my favorite thing to do. I would have dreams on occasion, even as an adult, of the cars flying off and into the river on that last drop. (Yes, I'm weird) That last time riding it was sad; but we tried to keep it happy by howling the whole ride. :) My siblings and I used to howl with the recording on the initial lift. I always enjoyed the brief quiet during the second lift, especially in the evening surrounded by the trees.

Now I feel a little down thinking that my daughter will never experience the ride. :(

Look at all those lush trees. All gone...like her. :(

Wait, Alpenghost, I'm fairly sure I remember some "trees" growing in the Festhaus last year, as part of some show. I think it was called Ensnared or Grapevined or something like that. It was awful.

Anyway, Hoopla and BGW Family, I came across these pictures of Alpengeist in its bare first years that give me more hope for how Verbolten may turn out.

Things really just need to fill in. My biggest gripe with Verbolten is that you just plunge into this warehouse out of nowhere. Hopefully, someday, maybe, if the park stops hating us, with luck... Verbolten will look natural, and it will look like you're going through some old gate into the "Black Forest" in the middle of the woods. I also hope to see something grow in between the track right before entering the event building and the track exiting the building, and behind the building so you can't see wide-open fields (Festhaus Park) right behind it. It may be because it was a suspended coaster, so there was more room beneath the ride, but I really think Verbolten needs to be forested in more than most rides, like Big Bad Wolf. Luckily, you can tell they've planted some trees near the drop and behind the track coming out of the building. When they fill in in a few years, it will help the ride blend in tremendously!

Hopefully they paint the green support track under the bridge brown. That is a big problem, and REALLY ugly looking at it from the bridge. I have noticed all the trees that they have planted, and every time I go to the park I check up on them to make sure they are growing properly. :) (Just to let you know, I really do that, I know, it's weird.)

Couldn't agree more. Here's to hoping.

Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but am I correct in my impression that they added a brake in the middle of the ride somewhere along the line? I remember riding it and feeling as if it had lost that full-throttle feel that I had loved so much.

There was trim brakes on the Rhine River drop. I would get some pictures, but i'm rushing around at the moment. Maybe some one else can get one?

I assume they had a good reason for adding them. I just wish they hadn't. I kinda lost my love for the BBW after that.

^^ I think it was because if the train came into the Brake run to fast, it probably would hit that support that it always looked like you were going to hit when you entered the brake run. Or possibly just because there was too much stress put on the track when it went that fast.

Junior, unless what I've learned is wrong, that brake was added after the ride opened, hence Nic's distaste of the ride after it was added and how it sort of messed up the experience. So I doubt they would open a ride which kept running into a support - keep in mind this is the society that evolved into one in which parents complain about an adult Halloween event being "too scary" for children and there are news reports when a ride gets stuck on the lift hill. If it started out by banging into a support column, Big Bad Wolf would have closed well before 2009 ;). That said, I'm willing to be your theory on it being too much stress on the track was some factor in the decision of adding the brake. Or like you said, it came into the brake run too fast, and it was too fast for the brakes to reliably or easily stop. My two cents, anyway.

I think the brake was for stress reasons, be it the track or the car. There is a cool post about that brake and a custom car built to install it somewhere in this thread I think. I do rember the trains hitting the station and swing like a startled snake. The brake did change the ride but I like to think it gave it a few more years.
Edit: found the thread. http://forum.parkfans.net/thread-2256.html

Usually if trims are added to the ride, it is maintenance related. Rider experience might be the park's excuse and might have slight control if the ride will receive trims.

I305 most likely received trims just because of the melting wheels. I'm sure the blacking out was a small influence and there excuse for it, but the primary reason would be the melting wheels.

Now we don't know officially why trims were added on BBW, but there could have been excessive stress on the train chassis or wheels, track or supports.

If the ride was too fast and kept hitting a support, then there is no way that the ride would have been running as long as it was. If a train was hitting a support, then there would be damage to not only the support, but also the train.

Um. I'm not saying your wrong, but where did you hear that they installed the trims after it opened. In fact I heard that the reason that they delayed the opening of BBW was because they had to install the trim brakes. I doubt that they would open a ride if they knew at the speed it was going, it would cause too much stress on the track.
That problem is usually always fixed before the opening of the ride. However, before we get into an argument over this let's
wait until someone who knows more than us to give us the correct answer.
