I'm not sure what you mean about it's barely going over anything worth seeing? It travels over the animal exhibits, some of which you can't see from the paths.

My memory of the area is a little hazy but IIRC the train gets out to the far NE corner of the park where the rhino habitat is, and a few other habitats. It stays closer to the path, and I didn’t recall not being able to not see some of those from the path.
The animal views are the real selling point of the skyride. The angles, perspectives, and access are fantastic.
How is it a scam?
Once again they charge for the tower in Seaworld and zero complaints

$5 to get a better view of the animals is not a bad charge.

$5 to get a better view of the animals wouldn't be a bad charge at all in a vacuum. The problem is that the Skyride always has been a core, free, transportation attraction and the Skyride still remains listed as a normal park attraction.
I don't care where the money goes. If they wanted to illicit donations at the two Skyride stations, no one would have any problem with it. That said, a required donation is a fee. An additional fee at the point of sale that is not clearly and obviously disclosed and described prior to that point is a junk fee. An additional fee past the initial point of sale for a product or service that the public reasonably believes they've already paid for is a scam.

When I was there a couple of years ago I went to a bar in the building next to the skyride station. The view I had as I was sipping my cocktail was a group of giraffes and zebras in a natural setting at sunset. It was pretty amazing. I had a great time that day (multiple rides on Iron Gwazi and other coasters) and honestly I would have been taken aback but probably payed $5 for the skyride (Don't ask what I paid for the cocktail with tip). I feel the 5% surcharge is way more sleazy, but if they somehow tie the cost of the sykride to the animal exhibits rather than just a random charge, to me, it wouldn't seem so bad. Regarding admission, time is valuable so if I can visit a park that has both animal exhibits and rides it's worth the premium as opposed to having to visit two parks. As far as comparing BGT to Cedar Point, having been to both I would gladly pay double to go to BGT over Cedar Point. Cedar Point is just asphalt with rides - absolutely no charm or ambiance. For a hot take, I actually prefer the coasters at BGT over Cedar Point (Maverick being the only plus for Cedar Point).

This park used to have a monorail that was MUCH better way to see the animals that was included in admission. In fact it provided the best views of them between the 3 original rides that went through them. It was a dedicated ride just to see the animals. But they removed it.
Then they installed Rino Rally which wasn’t as good or high capacity. Then they removed it.
All while raising prices to obscene levels.
Now they are wanting to charge for a ride that provides transportation and happens to gives more distant views of some of the
Busch Tampa is nothing but a coaster park these days with animals on the property that are either difficult or extra cost to see well. Their coaster only mentality is going to backfire

Saw this video on YouTube the creator of the video was saying that for people with a pass member, the Skyride was free if they did not have one it was $5

To be clear, the person in the video says that if you have a pass, you can ride for free, and that it is $5 for everyone without a pass. Riding with a pass member does not get you on the ride for free. So, there is no change to what we have been saying previously.
You know....if they were more upfront about it, it would at least be less confusing. Not trying to justify anything but $5 per trip is just such a massive ripoff, at least sell it up front and do a one time charge for all day. At least then I could use it all day like a locker without having to worry about it.
The biggest thing I'm concerned about this one a 2 way front:
1 - it gives them reason to basically say "oh hey lets charge for transportation everywhere" because the turnout on usage and payment is huge.
2 - if it doesn't get used a whole lot, it gives them reason to start saying when things break down they won't fix them.
It really puts a no win situation in the hands of the customer IMO.

I think back in the day before the park made a loop, one could exit at the mid station. There originally was a “Treetops” train station at that location too with snacks and restrooms. But that area didn’t connect to the paths of the park.
