According to six flags' support team, who I've been back and forth with the last few days, they reached out to the park management and there will be no speeches or any sort of ceremony "officially" but they may be out to say hi to guests. Of course they could just not want to tell us

My experience is that the park president snd senior management are out and about quit freaquently and very interactive with guests. I have nothing but nice things to say about any of them I fully expect that they will be out and about interacting and assisting as needed.

Changes are already visible in the parking lot today. No more preferred parking as all of the bollards have been removed. Some of the EV chargers have already been uninstalled too. Both main stores are shoveling everything out the door at 85% off. People are buying up merch like mad at those prices. Legit impressive crowd out here today too, for the record. Guess closing a park will do that... 🙁

Saw this comment today:

“Inside track from a friend in maintenance says the park will open under new ownership in 2026. They were sent home and instructed to come back Nov 3rd and remove all signage that has the Six Flags name or logo. They're simply milking it for everythign they can.”

Has anyone heard anything of this nature? Have absolutely no clue to the credibility of this, but also don’t know why someone would randomly make this up. Per a Six Flags America Facebook group.

Does anyone know if there's any evidence for the claim that Cedar Fair had a rider on the land sale for Geauga Lake that prevented any buyer from operating a park on the site? If they've done it before, I don't know why they wouldn't do it again—but I've only ever seen such a restriction claimed, I don't know of any evidence.

Also, I'm in contact with the person who posted the claim @jornor shared. Don't know if anything will come of it, but I am chasing the lead and have made contact.

If the county is playing hardball on rezoning to where the land can't be used for any other purpose, maybe a sale is possible. Obviously SF doesn't want new competition between its other parks, so very likely there would be major covenants in such a sale to keep the park in a manner that doesn't compete materially with KD or Great Adventure e.g. water park only.

I have seem the post don't know anything and places online that usually have and share very good leaked info on SFA have not shared it that I have seen.

Honestly? I don’t believe it’ll be opening up under new ownership. I mean, it’d be awesome if it did, but I highly doubt it will. That’s likely just someone making stuff up because they’re in denial.

There has been a weird feeling to how it's closer has gone for several months now. Including a strange concern for the pr are image of the park and that is coming from high up sources that I talked to personally. Maybe it's nothing more then the senior park leadership who are very invested in to community wanting to send it off right.

I know there was at least a seriously considered proposal for a small local water parkbon the site that ultimately didn't happen but don't know why it got killed or of that would have been different enough to past any possibility clause in the contract. Also it may come down to they need the cash bad enough and the county won't play ball soblets go with plan B where as CF clearly had the money to sit on Geauga for a long time.

maybe but the county did say that they had been in talks with one buyer about potential redevelopment but couldn't share more do ndas

GL local here. CF leveled every single thing there that could be leveled which gave me the impression that no amusement park will ever be there again. I know there was alot of rezoning issues post GL (which Im sure took time to fix) since it was in 2 different counties. But I always thought something was up for it to take almost 20 years for the land to finally be sold/redeveloped.

At this time, I'm very doubtful there's any there there. Nothing I've heard can't plausibly be explained by the expected Six Flags exit. The person who posted it seems totally genuine—he didn't make this up out of whole cloth, he's definitely not trying to deceive anyone—his interpretation of what he has heard is just a lot different than what my assessment would be if presented with the same information.

Obviously there could be there there broadly—maybe there is good news somewhere out there—I just haven't heard what I'd consider evidence of it yet.

I know that the cost of redevelopment was extremely high do to all the deep buried footers and cement had to br torn up and removed. I don't know the area well enough but always assumed that there was enough cheap land to turn companies off that route

I also chuck many of these things up to sentimental reading the best case into what they have heard.

I think this is pretty standard practice for a closing business; remove all the signage to keep people from trying to break in to the park/trespass and vandalize it. Taking down signs does not necessarily indicate the park was sold or going to reopen under new management.

I'll be going Sunday as well and would love to meet up with you all. I'll be in an oversized white suit jacket, yellow plaid pants. If you see me come up and say hi, or we can have a meetup spot. I'll there to closing. I look forward to sending this park off with you all. 🫡

Just a heads up, traffic may be bad when leaving, depending on where you're going. Commanders and Seahawks are playing at Northwest Stadium for Sunday Night Football which is about 10-15 minutes away from the park. I plan on going Saturday morning for a couple of hours. I wanted to go Sunday but I'll be back at KD on the last day of Haunt with someone who's never been. I hope to get one last ride on Superman, Wild One, Roar and Joker's Jinx and grab some merchandise on the way out.

Thanks for the tip. "Home" is north from the park, away from DC, so hopefully I should be able to dodge any traffic coming in for the game.

It's nice that the Commanders at least have the night game on Sunday. As unpleasant as dueling with traffic is, I'd much rather have to deal with some of it on the way out than a bunch of it on the way in, especially on such a monumental day for the park. A 1:00 start for that game really would have sucked.

To everyone going this weekend: have a great time and try to take a few moments to appreciate the memories you'll be making as they happen. It'll be a sad couple of days, but also very special - this is about as historic as an amusement park visit can get. Enjoy every minute and please share some pictures on here if you're able!
