RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

We have accomplished yet another small milestone! It has only been 16 days since the last milestone announcement at 61,000 posts. I'm here to tell you that we have just reached 63,000 posts!

Zachary likes posting the bigger milestones, so I guess I will stay at announcing the smaller ones. But anyways, thanks guys and another thanks to Zachary, Gavin, and Shane for the hard work that they put into the site to make it possible for all of us to come together and discuss the three parks that some may hate, but secretly love them anyway. Also make sure to give them all some rep for all the hard work that they do!

Back to the 63,000 post... incase anyone is wondering, Chickenking made the 63,000 post in the "Minor Changes (2013)" thread.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Nothing particularly important but I might as well post the stuff anyway.

  1. Gavin fixed a nasty bug that was discovered by Skyrider yesterday.
  2. New social media buttons have appeared on BGTFans, KDFans, and the ParkFans Forum. They'll be ported to BGWFans soon.
  3. The Tapatalk banner should no longer show up when visiting the forum from a mobile device however the app should still work as expected.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

One other quick note, we received an email a few days ago informing us that our current host will be shutting down August 1st. We will be moving the site by then and that will require some downtime with certain things being phased in and out. I can't set a date of the move exactly, but it will happen soon preferably by the 28th.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Thanks a ton for your offers Nora and Doc- we'll let you know. :)

Shane and I made a rather notable change to the boards tonight- we ditched the RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and NoLimits boards. The reasoning behind the change is actually quite simple: They were awful and there's already sites out there that do the job 100x better than we could ever hope to. In a way, by providing a place to discuss RCT3 and NL here, we were actually doing the target audience for those boards a disservice. In the off-chance that someone did start posting in one of those boards, what would we have accomplished? All we would've done would be to split a tiny piece off what is already a very small community- that hurts the community those boards were aimed at. Hence, we removed them.

If you're looking for a place to discuss your work or other people's creations in RollerCoaster Tycoon or NoLimits, there are plenty of very healthy sites where you can do just that. I've included some below for you to check out if you are so included to do so. I can personally vouch for Shyguy's World as I have lurked (and occasionally posted) there for a very long time now.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 & 2: NEDesigns
Roller coaster Tycoon 3: ShyGuy's World | RCTLounge
NoLimits: NoLimits Exchange

tl;dr: We want to support the places who are doing a good job. Why compete if we don't think we can provide a better experience?

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

And for anyone looking for the content that was on those boards, they have been moved to General Discussion with and [RCT3] tag at the front of the post or a [NoLimits] tag to the front.

So if you still want to look at Zach's coaster creations that were posted on the old boards they are not gone ;)

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Does this mean avatar changing/updating has been disabled? I tried changing mine and I kept getting taken to a No Permissions Page. Tried both a saved file and a URL.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

No problem. I can live with a caterpillar for a bit longer.

Not sure where to put this, but why are Gavin's rep and "Thanks" count reset at 0, but nobody else's? Part of the move, and it's because he's the one switching everything around? I thought of that when Zachary posted about all the hard work he's been doing for the sight. What's up?
