Not an expert or anything, but I imagine if it was some sort of metal fatigue failure or similar, the ejector pops at the end of the ride would likely be some of the most demanding on the restraint mechanism.

You think those things would have a rated life where you have to replace them after x amount of cycles.

Also are we allowed to turn general chat into orgish-light now?

Before I share this next thing, please know that my heart is also with the SFOG community this evening and the victim’s family after this unfortunate tragedy.

I wanted to share this photo showing the immediate impacts that this tragedy may have on the future of the Six Flags chain. Stock is down more than 10% in after hours trading, which is a stark sign that many investors are looking to jump ship after another safety-related incident in the past month alone.

Mods, if there is a better place to share this, please feel free to move it. I’m honestly split on if this is the right place/time to talk about it, but also think it’s relevant to the overall discussion.

The company is about to be sued into oblivion and if they're at fault they deserve it and more. This is the most horrifying theme park incident I've ever seen.

I think ICON Park is worse, but this is also really bad. This one's scary to me because it looks random, rather than directly provoked by something...
I lived in Orlando around the time that happened. This is worse. The victim flew over the train and hurt other people in the process. People came off the train covered in his blood. It's also a major amusement park on a national holiday so a lot of people saw it.

I had no idea there were still any B&Ms running without sensor-based restraint verification systems. If you can elaborate on which ride you're referring to having experience with, I'd be very interested to know! Hopefully it at least has a seatbelt for measurement?

IF (BIG IF!) Goliath somehow doesn't have an electronic restraint verification system, I guess it's possible the restraint was never actually lowered adequately to begin with and this could be a Ride of Steel/New Texas Giant situation?

Any former Goliath ops out there?
From what I have found, I think Goliath has a row verification like Apollo’s Chariot. I’m not 100% sure on this though.

If this is true, the problem is much more unexplainable besides complete neglect. If Goliath does not have harness verification, and operators pushed and pushed until the harness finally locked then that's poor training on the operators part. One locked pawl is not the same as several.

Interesting thread from a former ride op for Nitro. If you don’t want to click to see the rest, they go on to say a larger rider sat in the seat and the restraint again false verified on the second click. That restraint then popped open during the ride but the riders were able to hold it down.

I’m not familiar with this person or their credibility but thought it was interesting enough to share. If it’s true, it’s the only insight I’ve seen so far on what possibly could have happened on Goliath.

Is it fair to say this might be the worst incident since lightnin loops? At least in the Six Flags chain it has to be

There have been a number of instances of people being thrown from trains since then. New Texas Giant and Ride of Steel are the ones I immediately recall.
