I had forgotten about this video but it matches with things I still saw going on two months ago and seems like it might be relevant to the current situation.

This is just what I’ve heard.

But, allegedly this guy was filming with his phone (which is obviously a big no no), dropped it, tried to lunge for it, and that I guess released the restraint cause he was kind of a big guy….

This is all still allegedly however.

Feels like victim shaming right now. Even if it's true that shouldn't have caused the restraint to open if everything was done correctly or working correctly.

Hes not wrong though. Why is goliath closed if its not the clamshell.. because it shares the same name?
PR reasons. Probably a decent percentage of the population doesn't know that they are different style coasters SF doesn't beed a ton of social media post circulating showing the coaster running an saying that they are not taking the accident seriously. It sucks but it's the right PR call.

Interesting thread from a former ride op for Nitro. If you don’t want to click to see the rest, they go on to say a larger rider sat in the seat and the restraint again false verified on the second click. That restraint then popped open during the ride but the riders were able to hold it down.

I’m not familiar with this person or their credibility but thought it was interesting enough to share. If it’s true, it’s the only insight I’ve seen so far on what possibly could have happened on Goliath.

This incident was investigated by New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, the ride was inspected by the representative and found to be in working order.

Oh no. I agree

Whatever happened on that ride I can almost certainly guarantee you was park negligence.

A complete restraint failure on a B&M should be virtually impossible. Unless there was severe negligence on the parks side

B&M has issued a statement
The manufacturer of the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, Bolliger & Mabillard, based in Switzerland, has issued a statement calling Monday’s deadly accident “tragic.”

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the family and those affected,” the company, which bills itself as “a global benchmark for technological innovation and unrivaled reliability” said in a statement.

The company said it is “actively investigating the incident,” but had no further comment, “until we have a better understanding of what transpired.”

As of now the full statement isn't available anywhere online, and this is the best we've got. I'll keep looking.

We also have a statement from the chairwoman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, their equivalent of a mayor within the region

is Titan closed? It almost seems like the vague hyper coaster similarities were passable but the name might've done it in for PR reasons. really doesn't make sense for the Giovanolas imo

"A Six Flags spokesperson confirmed that Titan, a similar Giovanola model, has not closed in the wake of the Georgia incident."

La Ronde has closed their Goliath

I have to say some of the comments I am seeing in the wider coaster community right now are just freaking stomach turning and sicking.

Agreed. It's one thing to consider yourself inconvenienced by a closure but minimizing this horrible incident and/or blaming the victim (who boarded the ride under the OBVIOUS pretense of it being safe for him to do so unless told otherwise) is speculative, gross, and will not get the rest of the B&M hypers open any faster
