That's incredibly logical. The KD one never got very rough on the straight bits, and shouldn't put much wear on them, but those curves are a maintenance hog.

I contend the #5 coaster at Carowinds is currently Goldrusher, yeah that's the drop-off, straight to mine train. I don't know what's #2, 3, or 4, not even sure about 6, 7 and 8, but I know what's #1, #5 and Nighthawk.
I personally love Goldrusher. The finale is excellent. And it’s one of the few original parts of the park that is untouched) except all the nice water that used to be beside it.

The ticket booths at the south gate were demolished on Monday. The south gate has been closed for years and just so happens to neighbor the old Dinosaurs Alive land. If the south gate continues to be torn down, then I am going to assume this is the start of a 2024 project.
There are pictures on the Carowinds Fans Only Facebook page.

It will be surprising if they add anything in 24 after adding all those flat rides this year.

CF doesn’t normally make additions in back to back years. KI had to wait 3 years between Orion and the 2 cheapy flat rides. KD got nothing this year. Even precious Cedar Point doesn’t get back to back annual additions.

It’s obvious right now that cedar fair is concentrating on reducing their huge debt. Additions seem to be minimal and on the lower cost scale (zamperla). Look at the tiny wild mouse that Cedar Point got. It’s a capacity nightmare for that huge park.

seems kinds odd that any project in that area would require them building that far out toward the parking lot.

Based on a previous survey I think that the giant WhiteWater West log flume (despite it looking like some 2000's-era water ride) and Mack water coaster are the more likely road to long-term.

Ignoring the B&M Giga Dive entirely (with extreme prejudice), the Zamperla Family Launch Coaster simply isn't happening.

Upon further inspection it's a single train layout with a spike and switch track; the 4500 length is likely total track traversed instead of physical length. Zamperla's borrowed the concept from an idea a couple IAAPA's ago. This is a layout we could expect to see at Michigan's Adventure rather than Carowinds, Cedar Point, or Kings Island. Make no mistake it'd be a great investment there, but too large in size and low capacity elsewhere.

Plus with Carowinds' Project 2025 being a different single-train, multi-lap, low capacity family coaster, I wouldn't expect them to jump at this concept.

Does anybody think that Carowinds is due for a new Thrill coaster in couple years after Racing Railway. Where do you think this coaster could go, when will it be added and most importantly, what will it be. I personally think we will see a GCI woodie to replace either Hurler or Vortex.

I'd like to see Gravity Group reimagine Hurler since RMC seems unlikely at this point. Based on the recent surveys, I think we could expect a water coaster and/or a dive coaster. I could see a water coaster (or some sort of water ride) in the rapids or dino's alive plot of land. A dive coaster or even a tilt coaster could potentially replace Nighthawk down the road. Will be interesting to see if they release another survey with other options, but for now those are my thoughts.

I wonder if carowinds can get a new coaster (and maybe a dealing one like the old thunder road roller coaster), I mean, replace the old dinosaur walkthrough with this and this will be a win

I actually wanted to echo this, I’d be okay with the park leaving the Nighthawk plot empty for the foreseeable future in favor of filling up the Dinosaurs Alive plot.

I’d like to see GCI go all out on a potential magnum opus, a long Wodan-sized wooden coaster that weaves in and around itself and hugs the terrain. Alternatively, Gravity Group would also be a great fit as they’ve worked with Cedar Fair on numerous projects recently (Racer KI, Grizzly KD, Minebuster CW, and the shelved Dorney Shuttle). Something like Leviathan at Seaworld Australia would be perfect in that plot.

I think it would be a better fit for Carowinds as it fills a gap in the park’s lineup, and I think leaving the central lagoon open could even look better aesthetically. I think also, cost-wise, it would potentially be cheaper given the incoming steel tariffs.

We still gotta wait for the water ride in 2026 but if the park has to fill up an empty plot of land, I’d rather it be the Dinos plot than Nighthawk. The lagoon was always a centerpiece of the park prior to the Paramount Days, if anything Nighthawk was the anomaly.
