I’m still skeptical of this being built alongside ka. If Ka was not going too last much longer anyway as mentioned in interview, it would seem smarter to build this after Ka removal to fill the void and have a new coaster ready the next year. Also demolishing Ka would have been more challenging to not interfere with spire. It’s interesting they keep saying now, that this never was supposed to be KA replacement. They even hinted on facebook that we could see a coaster taller than Ka. Honestly, I can’t see there being some huge plan all along to build a KA 2. Unless…this truly was a project planned before the merger to GA and the new company is planning on building something insane (unlikely in today’s economy).

Where on Facebook did you see someone with the park hinting there could be a coaster taller than Ka?

If you go on Facebook, someone was saying they thought it would be taller than Ka and they commented we are just getting started to build. Its was indirectly hinting at it.

Oh, that's just them teasing Project Purple, but don't take the responses literally. The official account also commented on Instagram a while ago similar things to everyone's comments about PP. Someone commented there something like "I hope it's taller than Top Thrill 2" and Six Flags wrote back "Stay tuned!" They also wrote "stay tuned" to one person's comment, "I hope it's a full circuit coaster!" They're just being vague and teasing the ride, though. It won't be taller than or as tall as Ka, and they aren't planning another coaster taller than or as tall as Ka.

totally on board with calling this project peepee by the way. idc if that's a redundant acronym. PIN number

Well, HUGE updates out of this interview by Fred Fishkin of Techstination with Ryan AND the construction manager(!).

The bottom lines:

Ryan:
  • “Hoping to open in 2027”
  • “Going significantly vertical in the coming weeks”
  • “100.5 feet tall” inversion
  • Announcement in June; story, manufacturer, record details, etc. Want to close the book on Shoreline Pier before moving on to Project Purple.
  • Limited announcement about “PP and its significance” “probably mid-May.”
  • Original plan was to announce PP mid-spring, but didn’t want to mix SP and PP. Memorial Day [weekend?] is the target for SP to open.
  • Has a design/conceptual plan with PP and Kingda Ka side-by-side. PP was “vetted” in 2022.
  • PP will hopefully be here for "decades"; KK "didn’t have much time left even if it survived ’24 and ’25."
Construction manager Stephen Kolczynski:
  • "ride erection" is 60% complete
  • “Near 400 feet tall in height”
  • Building foundations for load station to start in a couple weeks
  • Memorial Day weekend goal for Shoreline Pier
  • Large crane to arrive soon
  • 80,000ft of electric cable being installed; most still to-be-done
  • Weeks and months heading into Frightfest all this work will continue
  • 1100 yards of concrete for the tower footers; more than usual
  • 40x40x15 spread footings for the tower
  • KK spread footings still in the ground
  • Unexpected utilities found digging for PP delayed progress; infrastructure for GASM and GL were found and had to be removed
  • BESS battery storage system first in US to power PP

I Like how in the video it’s subtly implied a roughly 60 second launch interval.

Im just going to say it’s the tallest purple coaster in the world.
Grimace must be the designer of the ride

Exactly. “World‘s tallest giga coaster” sounds more impressive than it is because most guests don’t know what a giga coaster is.

We know that “giga” means 300-399 feet and that if a coaster reaches 400 feet, it’s no longer a giga coaster. But I bet the average guest either has never heard of the term “giga coaster” or just thinks it refers to some kind of massive coaster. So hearing that it’s the “world’s tallest” giga sounds like a big deal.

Arguably, “world’s tallest giga coaster” would for that reason be a little misleading, but so are all the other flimsy, qualified records (e.g. “world’s fastest multi-launch coaster”) that all these chains are guilty of claiming.

To be fair, I think we're not impressed in this context because we had Ka and this ride is almost the same in its main features but is significantly shorter. So, giga height record......uh, thanks, I guess? 🤷‍♂️ It woulda killed ya to get to 400'?! That said, Fury 325 got a lot of hype, and still does, for being the tallest traditional-style giga coaster. If we were getting Nitro's big brother that topped Fury, I'd rightly buy into such hype. But in fairness, getting the giga record isn't nothing. It's just it reminds us of what was, and what could have been with this ride in the early stages of hope and vague teasing PR about being "bigger than Ka," etc. If you made me choose one record of all those they'll tout for this, giga height is the only one I'd have a little pride in. The rest are weak sauce to me.

I agree......I had heard that Great Adventure had plans before Phantom Spire of a 350 foot giga coaster at the front of the park. Additionally, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Great Adventure had also planned a 400 foot full circuit coaster next to Medusa where the old theater is. I forgot where I heard this but definitely would have been interesting. Regardless, I think project purple is a beautiful coaster with the color and that insane upside down launch! I hope the park has that zep powder on hand at the station for housekeeping duties lol

It's fun that we keep prejustifying unmade claims under the assumption they'll be necessary to aggrandize an underwhelming product. Again I understand sometimes I like to poke fun at the stupidity I anticipate, just seems odd to explain why a misleading record claim (with no agreed-upon technical definition from any veritable authority, afaik) is "technically accurate"

Thank u for daring to recall a time when there was hope, the sky was still blue... even in the face of relentless corporate austerity there were once dreams to be dreamt...

I have come to the conclusion project peepee is like if Benson Boone were a machine... a very low (high? I'm trying to say unrelatable if familiar) denominator that isn't even common, a project forced on the masses as if it represented something that came from their ranks... a "pleasant" diversion that is only a rule breaker by the strictest, most arbitrary moral code prone to bending and breaking and soaking... novel only to those ignorant of Freddie Mercury's very existence...

Y'know, you're allowed to have more than one personality trait.
