News Project 2027/Skyland/Purple: Delayed “World Record Breaking Coaster" (Phantom Spire?)

We've wrestled over this before. The distance traveled from station start to station stop will be longer than Ka. But Ryan has been a little sloppy at times, saying "more track than" a few times. It's simply not going to be true in that way. The ride experience will be longer, but not the physical ride structure itself. It'll be about half the total ride track of Ka. It will, though, be "bigger than" Ka in a footprint sense. It'll end up using more sq ft of ground than Ka, apparently. So, some technically correct claims/titles/records even if they aren't exactly what first comes to mind when you hear them.

The only other for which I've heard "occupied area" as an attempt at a marketable metric is Dragon Mountain. Maybe they'll start measuring length laterally along the outline of the crossties to make it longer. It would "technically" be the world's longest, with a super useful exciting new stat like "combined length of tubular steel members traversed"

That would be sick if the cars inverted at the top of the tower. I literally had a dream about this ride 2 nights ago and the top of the spike had a rolling inversion. (However project purple, in my dream, was at Carowinds for some reason instead of Great Adventure ).

That would make this ride so much better. Hanging upside down with only a lap bar 300 + ft and then gliding into an outer bank on the top.

Yeah I'd be really surprised if that was for the coaster, or really any new rides at all. Ryan Eldredge has said a few times that project purple won't be a surprise announcement and that we'd know the date beforehand. It also just doesn't make much sense to announce any new rides before Shoreline Pier opens, having one major new ride campaign at a time is what makes the most sense in my opinion. Given the fact that it's a multi-market announcement, I'm going to guess that they're announcing shows at a variety of parks, or this is something season pass related.

The bottom lines:

Ryan:

• “Hoping to open in 2027”
• “Going significantly vertical in the coming weeks”
• “100.5 feet tall” inversion
• Announcement in June; story, manufacturer, record details, etc. Want to close the book on Shoreline Pier before moving on to Project Purple.
• Limited announcement about “PP and its significance” “probably mid-May.”
• Original plan was to announce PP mid-spring, but didn’t want to mix SP and PP. Memorial Day [weekend?] is the target for SP to open.
• Has a design/conceptual plan with PP and Kingda Ka side-by-side. PP was “vetted” in 2022.
• PP will hopefully be here for "decades"; KK "didn’t have much time left even if it survived ’24 and ’25."

Construction manager Stephen Kolczynski:

• "ride erection" is 60% complete
• “Near 400 feet tall in height”
• Building foundations for load station to start in a couple weeks
• Memorial Day weekend goal for Shoreline Pier
• Large crane to arrive soon
• 80,000ft of electric cable being installed; most still to-be-done
• Weeks and months heading into Frightfest all this work will continue
• 1100 yards of concrete for the tower footers; more than usual
• 40x40x15 spread footings for the tower
• KK spread footings still in the ground
• Unexpected utilities found digging for PP delayed progress; infrastructure for GASM and GL were found and had to be removed
• BESS battery storage system first in US to power PP

From what Sharp 1 just shared. There is a twisty element not sure what it is..but seems like it may be something upside down.

I think it's just the lead up to the inverted stall/launch, but since the video appears to have been filmed a while ago, it's not finished yet. Unless you're seeing something I'm not seeing.

I wonder what the power draw will be vs Ka or Chiller, since they're utilizing a BESS system rather than direct grid draw.

I wonder what the power draw will be vs Ka or Chiller, since they're utilizing a BESS system rather than direct grid draw.

Stephen said the point of BESS was to draw less, so I'd imagine it'll be less of a hog than those were. Which is smart, though it's Mack's thing and nothing Six Flags had to do with.

The top of the structure (lights, elevator shaft, etc, not necessary track height) tops out at 375ft, unless they file an amendment with the FAA. For the past several coasters the only time they filed one was to adjust the coordinates provided for Ka's tower.

And with two possible bumpers seen on track pieces on-site, I'm hoping the track is the tallest piece of the tower structure, even if the train rolls to a stop 10-20' from the very end before it rolls back.
