If you saw the latest KD food blog from earlier today, Hungry Hippo is no more.

Most food locations in Jungle X-pedition are either getting new menu items and/or a complete makeover. New, major reveal of the Outer Hanks restaurant replacement to come Monday (Coaster101 blog?).

New menu items for Jukebox Diner too. Seems that location menu will not just be hamburgers anymore.
Can I get a link to the blog post?

I wonder what the deal is going to be with the new “signature restaurant” for them to want to reveal on a podcast?
Not sure.

I've heard of Coaster101; but, I don't patronize their site with any regularity.

The food related changes for 2022 is more than I expected. I thought it would center on just the Outer Hanks restaurant replacement. It sounds like KD is pushing the food offerings up another notch.

I would not be surprised if this continues into 2023. I am eyeing Victoria's Pizza for next year.

Looks like some really solid food updates, especially that hot chicken sandwich. It will also be nice to have a park in VA where you can regularly get specialty fries.
It is ironic in that the former Infernal Funnel Cakes stand is coming full circle, back to serving fresh cut fries again. That building was the original Jungle Jim's French Fry Stand in the Taft/KECO years.

They are retheming already African themed food locations (Inferno, Hungry Hippo) but keeping the generic Chicken Shack. Of all the buildings in Safari Village, that one and Hanks are the most out of place and not in theme.

Hanks at least had some out of theme curbside appeal but Chicken Shack is one of the most generic buildings in the park.

I’m becoming concerned about Tumbili’s pacing and spins after watching the testing video. Even though it may have been cold that particular day, I also saw Dragon Slayer’s first test runs and it went through the course much more rapidly. I’m not sure whether this is due to different temperatures but merely an observation.

Both of them, however, trim the ride to the point that it looks like it could valley every time.

New replacement for Outer Hanks is the Outpost Cafe.

Featuring entrees such as fire roasted Prime Rib, in-house made Sausage, grilled half Chicken, etc. The chef mentioned a couple side items such as mango/tomato salad, fingerling potatoes, Peruvian fried bread.

I think the chef hinted there was a couple more entrees to be on the Outpost Cafe menu. There will be seasonal sides that will rotate during the year.

Also, Juke Box diner was given a refresh and a more diverse menu than just burgers and fries. He also touches on the changes for the former Hungry Hippo and the new fry stand.

The pod-cast features the KD general manager first, then next up is Tony, the head of creative services for the park and the changes for Jungle X-pedition, and finally chef Dennis on the food changes.

Link is below for the pod-cast. It Runs almost 55 minutes (All KD stuff).

Agreed. I listened to the podcast today and Bridgette and Tony both mentioned that there will be Easter eggs and surprises all throughout the new area. Bridgette specifically mentioned that there would be Easter eggs in the concrete, and I was intrigued by Tony’s comment about them keeping one line of asphalt to resemble a landing strip. It seriously feels like so much thought has been put into this area, and I can’t wait to see it.

After listening to the podcast, I'm eagerly looking forward to the new area as well. Some of my favorite highlights from the podcast:
  • Nostalgia-type easter eggs scattered throughout the restaurants, retail store, and area.
  • Lot of landscaping added - palm trees and jungle-like vegetation.
  • (As we know) All asphalt has been replaced by pavers. (And as mentioned above) A swath of asphalt has been left in front of one of the restaurants, as a airstrip for planes coming and going into the area - which according to Tony is "one thematic piece of the puzzle".
  • Scattered throughout the area are dig sites being excavated; again according to Tony: "like you would see in National Geographic".
  • Avalanche/Reptilian - According to Tony: By far more theming than the ride has ever had; even theming of the maintenance bay, as the train comes back to the station.
  • Scrambler/Arachnidia - Supports and cars repainted. A surprise can be found on the mountain behind the ride. And the ride's cement has been re-poured, with stone carvings embedded.
  • Outer Hanks has been completely gutted, in creating the new Outpost Cafe.
  • Ten Goose Bar (outside of Outpost Cafe) - Number of new signature drinks. And new Tumbili Lager - which I look forward to, as I love a good lager 😉
