There could also be some gamesmanship around how to schedule the Tumbili opening given Pantheon. They probably can't beat Pantheon because BGW is going to hold a really early media day. Plus they don't want to open it directly next to Pantheon's official opening probably? It's a difficult position.
I’m not sure why KD needs to avoid BGW here. Visually Tumbili and the revamp to that area is going to have a better look on video and print than the unthemed Pantheon. KD would honestly do well to plan out to their own schedule and if possible make it happen for opening day.

I sort of wonder if both parks care less about what the other is doing than we think they do. In general, I think their main marketing goal isn’t to steal guests from one park and convince them to go to the other. Rather, it’s to convince customers to spend their day at the park instead of going bowling, seeing a movie, staying home, etc.

While I doubt they’d plan for this either, if the two coasters did open on the same day, it might even make for a better news story, earning both parks more publicity.

wait, pantheon already has a media day set? what is it?

Keep in mind that Tumbili is part of a greater re-fresh of the old Safari section. It is not really marketed as a totally stand-alone star attraction for 2022. KD keeps pushing the whole Jungle X-pedition makeover, headlining with Tumbili.

With that being said, there could be unexpected delays with construction supplies/materials not being delivered on time; tight labor market for construction tasks yet to be done.

We know that a good chunk of the walkways in that area are being re-done in pavers and they are doing stuff with that former games structure. That Avalanche is getting re-themed. We have not heard anything yet about the revamp of Outer Hanks restaurant and the Congo Thrills gift shop makeover. Plus, marketing keeps telling us that much more is on the way or to come. If there is anything else to all the above; then, KD is holding their cards pretty tight.

If KD cannot get the whole re-vamped area complete by park opening, I can see them delay opening it till later in the spring. That does not mean all of the area would be closed. They could still open the path between the Safari bathrooms and the back of Hungry Hippo for people to get to Stunt Coaster, Anaconda, FOF, and I-305. I assume the impacted areas, still undergoing the makeover, will be blocked off by fences/barriers.

I feel, if KD cannot present the area as they are trying market it, then it will be closed until they can. Plus, the park never stated Jungle X-pedition would be open when the season starts on March 12th.

I’m more excited about seeing the new theming at KD than riding a coaster that’s been sitting completed in sight for a year, with 0 theming.

They definitely should wait until the area is complete for a true grand opening. First impressions are everything. Half finished area is not good first impression.

I am leaning Scrambler retheme as well. Fits within the Phase I makeover.

At this point, I just can't see any other major makeover, like Stunt Coaster, happening for 2022. Maybe 2023-2024? . . . Shrug.

The only thing I wonder, since the park is opening so early this year, is if Jungle X-pedition will completely open on day 1; Partially open on day 1 with a staggered opening for the rest of the re-made area over a 4-6 week period; or, it does not open at all until later this spring.

They are only saying Spring for Jungle X-pedition and Tumbili. They aren't saying opening day. I wouldn't go day 1 hoping it's open as you'll likely be disappointed.

I personally was leaning toward J-X would not open until later in the spring. So, I am not expecting anything would be open March 12th.

How much more work do you think will have to be done before Jungle X-Pedition can open? I'm guessing Tumbili is complete and ready for testing, and the only things that might delay the opening of the area are finishing the Reptilian retheme and retheming the scrambler, which although I'm not an expert or industry professional, I'm guessing will only take a few weeks, a month at the most.

From my standpoint, we still don't know the full scope of what KD is doing in that area for 2022. It is not so much about Tumbili and the existing ride re-themes. The revamped restaurant, gift shop, and the new potential entertainment stage/venue are still big unknowns. Not sure, to what extent, the existing walkways and landscaping are being altered, moved around, maybe even relocated. Too many unanswered questions currently to give an expected completion date.
