Lots of factors there. Some known others unknown by me.
- they could have easily tested behind without demo.
- if the floor of the mountain was dirt they could have done it with minimal demo.
- how much asbestos was used in the construction that could effect pre and post demo samples
- could they reuse certain elements of VTBC soil samples
I think the answer is simple. The mountain was expensive to maintain and having it SBNO means it’s always operating in the red.
Ok with my GIF reaction out of the way.....who cares if a coast goes in this exact spot? I've long been of the opinion that even though the lot is big enough for a smaller scale coaster, I do thing going with a flat package is a better idea. Why? (1) As mentioned Safari Village is already heavy with coasters. (2) Putting a coaster there leads to inevitable comparisons. (3) There's a possibility in their plans that a coaster was never to go there after Volcano.
Also reading that KD has too many flats. What? Really? Like was that a joke? 16 flats without Planet Snoopy or Water Rides included (I don't because A, many are duplicates and B, many are height limited.). That's not a whole lot. By comparison, doing the same elimination (kid rides and water rides) Hersheypark has 25 flats. Canada's Wonderland has 23 by the same standard. BGW has 14 with the same standards. If at all I argue our south central parks are extremely underserved when it comes to flat packages.
Lmao who cares what other parks have? They still have more than enough flat rides and KD should try to be the best park it can be, not be lazy with Volcano’s replacement.

Sorry. When there are plenty of parks with 8-9-10+ more flats saying KD has “more than enough” won’t be a valid reason to me for not putting in more.
Nobody outside of this board cares about the coaster to flat ride ratio. I guarantee you people would be more excited about either a themed experience/dark ride or compact coaster in that spot than a bunch of carnival flats.

It’s kind of amazing how people talk about how terrible Safari Village is but when I suggest that they put something that would actually make the area better you’re like “nah let’s plop some superloops and skywarps on an empty field because ratio”.
I said this before but I would rather they just turn that plot into a garden then a fucking flat ride package. It’s the shit that makes the park look like it’s from Six Flags.

That’s no common sense. Not everyone that goes to amusement/theme parks go for coasters. I got at least 5 friends I could text right now that would say either they don’t care what’s there or they would prefer a flat. It’s not a universal opinion to make it fact that a coaster is better than a flat package.
@madmax - we don't interact much but I'm a big fan of your posts (for all the wrong reasons). If you're wondering why people dislike your musings (again, remember, I love your work) I would say its 20% what you say, and 80% how you say it. But don't let me stop you from doing you.
What do I think would make Safari Village better? More landscaping, more cohesive theming, another bathroom, a live entertainment facility, more activities for families. A coaster would be nice, but it’s not a necessity on that list.
I really can’t comprehend how you equate flat rides with Six Flags so quickly. Canada’s Wonderland, Carowinds, and Knott’s have all integrated flat ride packages nicely into their themed areas in recent years. In the case of Knott’s, they replaced a major thrill ride, Perilous Plunge, with a collection of flats and made a beautiful new boardwalk section to go along with the addition. That situation seems awfully similar to Volcano’s, so why can’t KD do that?
Considering Volcano was a unique, beloved ride a flat package shows that the park isn’t even trying. That’s the issue. The only way it would work is if they drastically redevelop the area and that plot, where there’s theming all around, phantasialand/lisberg style. But Cedar Fair doesn’t appear to operate that way.
Perilous Plunge was a unique, record breaking ride too.
Also, I would say Knott’s boardwalk and Carowinds’ county fair section are both evidence that Cedar Fair has invested into theming their flat additions to integrate them into the landscape.

Who the hell said unthemed? Seriously, quote a post of somebody actually advocating just plopping generic flats on a field and calling it a day. Quote it.
Neither of those have themed flats. Just putting a couple props in the area isn’t theming. Look at what the European parks do with their flats if you want a better example of what I mean.

No one, as far as I have noticed, has advocated replacing Volcano with unthemed flat rides. Yet, the basis of the objection to flats seems to be a lack of theming.
People can disagree about whether a flat package is a good addition to Safari Village. What they shouldn’t do, however, is condemn a position based on a things that have never been proposed.

Ok, so a little just hopefulness in this, but a great thing I would like to see done with this plot of land:
By not touching the back end of the plot, you still leave yourself the space to build a Wodan Timbur Coaster sized coaster set back some. Adding in the flats that close to the 'main plaza' can really grow the size of this area of the park without trying too much, still leave the space for a future (5-10 years) coaster, while giving a HUGE marketing point for them to use.
- Split off the area with BLSC, Anaconda, FoF, I-305 into it's own 'sub-theme area'. I've actually proposed that before for a 'Gasoline Ally' theme. Then replace what used to be the VTBC arch with a theme of Jungles of Africa.
- Paint the side of FoF's exterior to have trees and blue sky to blend in the show building, and as a tribute to the mountain/volcano, paint a mountain onto it.
- Make a path going back from VTBC's old entrance. Plant real tropical looking trees, and accent with some fake jungle like trees. Make the paths look like dirt as opposed to cement.
- Similar flat package to what Canada's Wonderland got a few years ago with Lumberjack, Flying Canoes, and Soaring Timbers. Take them an retheme to fit more of a African Safari theme element. Instead of "Flying Canoes", "Congo Rapid Expedition".
