So i have a friend who is speculating that KD is getting the worlds first Axis as a replacement for Volcano, and KD has decided to wait until they are on site to build that, before starting construction of the free spin, and kill two birds with one stone. Now this sounds rather far fetched, but it would certainly be interesting if they had both a Free Spin and an Axis. Then they just need to add a spinning coaster to complete the trifecta.

I would be utterly shocked if Cedar Fair went that route. They are so cookie cutter sometimes. I mean if they did I would be thrilled and that would be an awesome replacement for Volcano. That would be a cool area of the park with a free spin, axis, and Avalanche. My hope is that they do something much cooler than a B&M Wing Coaster (like a Mack launch, or Gerstlauer Infinity) but if they do that I won't be upset either as B&Ms are a great investment for any park and currently Dominator is the leader in riders on an annual basis the last time I looked.

Don't expect KD to build two coasters back to back. Cedar Fair has other parks they want to invest in too. KD's pre-COVID plan was the FreeSpin in 2021 and then something bigger a couple years later. I think that timeline, but delayed a year, is the most optimistic reasonable estimation right now.

2022 - 4D Freespin. Avalanche re-opens.
2023 - Something NOT in Safari Village. Not a coaster.

Now it gets interesting.

2024 - Major attraction. Area could take 2-3 years to complete (i.e. more that one major attraction). Could start OR end with a coaster.

The 5+ year gap between Volcanoes removal and its replacement being built is gonna feel like some weird pseudo dark ages KD history wise. I just hope I like free spins. 😂

I think 2024 is still relatively optimistic that something major gets built, maybe announced but I have doubts about being built for 2024.
To be honest, I was not thinking coaster for 2024. Major coaster for 2025 or 2026.

^Yes but in that 8 year gap they still had Volcano which was arguably their signature coaster for the park and they made a lot of nice park improvements in that timeframe I certainly think the park is much nicer nowadays since the late 2000s-early 2010s. Were talking about a timeframe where an entire corner of the park is just kinda barren with a bobsled coaster.

^Agreed. Can't wait until they get this freespin built and open Avalanche back up. I really enjoy Avalanche one of the few more relaxing coasters in the park then I've never ridden an S&S Free Spin so I hope I enjoy them so it can be fun to hop on. Though I personally suspect it will draw a significant queue. People at KD really enjoy queuing for mediocrity. Example: Anaconda of all things having a line while I305 is a ghost town.

So much to unpack in the comments on this one, but consensus is split over whether Avalanche will reopen and if the 4D FreeSpin will be any good... In addition to all the misguided comments about park operations (seriously 2 hours for a lightning delay was likely because their tracking tools indicated there were strikes within a certain distance so they had to wait it out, not because it's 2 hours after the last strike).

So I actually have a ton of experience with these systems, and you can set it to whatever the heck you want.

For example:
One course we set at a 10 mile radius with a 15 minutes all clear.
Another one set it at 5 miles with a 10 minute all clear.

The best system was a 20 mile "imminent" signal, which didn't blow the horns but texted all staff so we could be prepared; gave a 15 mile "chirp" which didn't mean course closed but let players know it could be coming; then gave the 5 mile blow. The return was set up so 10 minutes after it left the 5 mile radius we were texted so staff could start prepping to let people out again; then at 15 minutes it gave a chirp to let people know they should be moving to get ready, then a 20 minute all clear blow.

Additionally you can set the sensitivity on it. One course I worked at had it set so sensitive that sometimes on a dry and windy day, the static electricity from nearby power lines would get picked up as lightning.

Unless something has changed KD's and I believe all CF parks use a policy of no strikes recorded by radar in a 10 mile radius for 30 minutes before resuming normal operation.

I would be really surprised if Avalanche went anywhere based on the response from the park when the question has been asked on social media.

I'd think the only way that'd happen is if they bring in a Chipotle style serving station where you can opt to not include it.
It shouldn't be an option to begin with. That's the problem.

Staying on topic: I think the Safari area is the one in most need of fixing up in the park. A retheme isn't a terrible idea.
