I'm in favor of more theming, but that sounds like wishful thinking. Based what I've seen at the park it seems that the SOP is to reduce (or neglect) theming at rides over time, which is a real disappointment. Meaning if the theming didn't go in when the ride was built it's a long shot at best that anything will be added in the future to improve it.

I'm going to see Pantheon for the first time this weekend and judge for myself but based on the comments it sounds like they really dropped the ball there in this case.

If it turns out that BGW’s future is without theming, then at least their loss will be Kings dominions golden opportunity. Jungle X and any future area at KD will be Virginia’s go to option for the paying locals that value a thematic and comprehensive park experience. And BGW will be Virginia’s coaster lineup destination. I bought season tickets to KD over BGW for the first time this year.

Oh how the turn tables..

Whoops, I didn’t think I needed to start my comment with “in my opinion”. Sorry you found it confusing!

I’ve lived here in Virginia all my life. I’ve been lucky enough to have season passes to BGW for many years as a kid. Now I live and work in Richmond and KD is infinitely more accessible to me. So when you say that we aren’t already at that point, that is not true. I am at that point, and of course I am only speaking for my own opinion. The employee interactions at KD are what sold me to buy a season pass this year over BGW. Many employees working dining/retail at BGW in the last few years have given me some of the worst customer service in the state. I get better service and thematic experiences at KD for half the price.

The general public still seems to universally prefer BGW in Richmond from my experience and most don’t have time for my Jungle X or I305/TT arguments for why KD is even WORTH visiting. If KD is ever preferred by the majority of the general public it will be 50+ years from now and that is a pipe dream.

Well, not on the KD thread (no experience with KD here) but rode Pantheon today and it is quite an experience. It's early yet but might be my new top ride.

As far as the theming... Well it is underwhelming in that regard. I'd say the landscaping is decent and I don't quite get the "Amusement park rollercoaster in a parking lot" vibe from it but they are getting perilously close to it. Not sure if they cheapened up some of that due to the COVID shutdown or not.

My biggest complaint is that the photo station gets blasted by the afternoon sun, making it impossible to see the screens. Someone screwed up on locating that and didn't give any thought to proper shading or sun direction. Pretty annoying to add pictures to your Photo key (or buy prints, which I believe is the point) when you can't even see which picture has you in it.

On the plus side, the ride itself is solid. Hope it holds up for years to come and fingers crossed on some theming updates... Although (not to get off topic but) after I saw Verbolten today it's apparent they need to put some serious money into that both inside and out or trash it and build something new in its place. (/end off topic)

That is a very broad generalization. Do you have data to back up your claims about what all non-enthusiasts care about?

No, that’s why I said “still seems in my experience” and “the majority of the general public” I don’t believe I was absolute saying the phrase “all non-enthusiasts care about” as then we need to discuss things like sports, movies, tv, books and other things because theme parks are definitely NOT that. This is just from interacting with people at work and in public. If you want I can send an email poll to my department at work and share the results, could also ask 25 people out walking my dog over a week in the museum district and log results, I feel reasonably confident over 50% would say BGW is preferred if they even like theme parks based on interactions with people over the years. There are definitely exceptions to this but they seem uncommon.

Yeah. I don't think we're gonna be at that point anytime soon. At all.
Sorry if I seem like I’m trying to mud sling or be overly argumentative about my perspectives. This forum community is one of the most positive parts of my day, bums me out to come on here and see bad vibes.

I guess I got miffed by “at all”. I would call that an “absolute statement”. And I get pretty bothered when people dismiss my point of view by tossing a lazy absolute statement at me. I was taught to never debate in absolutes as that creates an indefensible position. I hope I seem open for disagreements! Just please don’t try to bury my opinion with a generalization about how “x won’t happen for a million years”. IMO that makes for boring conversation. Just having fun on here! :) I mainly said “turn tables” because I like that quote from The Office 😂

I’ll try to not preach anymore on here sorry!

I think everyone is trying to come from a good place, and it's all opinions being expressed when you're trying to say "X park is better than Y park to me currently." There's nothing wrong with liking/valuing your experiences more at KD than BGW - and vice versa. Rock that KD season pass, friend! Don't allow someone else's words to negatively affect your day.

Both parks are doing positive and negative things, but they're also being judged on historical context. As long as you have fun in this hobby, that's all that really matters at the end of the day. That's what we're all here to share in - that and PROJECT 2025 LEAKS in a different thread.

(and DarKoaster > Drachen Spire 😋)

At the end of the day I just really enjoy both and honestly it makes me sad when people choose to rule out KD completely because BGW is here when KD is a very nice amusement park overall at the end of the day.

So yeah Pantheon is really cool and fun. I can't wait to ride again on Sunday!

Got in line for about 10 minutes and Pantheon went down. Also brought friends for it lol Intamin is struggling this weekend it seems.
Assuming it is a technical issue? There's a slight breeze, and can't imagine it is wind related.

That said, glad I got my back row ride in at park open.
