My guess it's part of the old tradition of placing an undecorated tree to signify it's reached it's highest point...

It's worth noting that BGW put a Christmas Tree on top of InvadR's half-built station a couple years back too. Next year will be fun—BGW can take the highest Christmas Tree in the state crown from KD! ?
