Ferrari makes sense from an Italian perspective,

Not gonna happen.

Ferrari is officially in the theme park business with Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi and Ferrari Land in Spain.

They have plans to open one of these parks in the USA so they're not gonna let a competitor like SEAS use their brand for one of their rides.

I'm leaning very much the way of the 76 is not the true top speed based on the drop to the Rhine the top hat would have to be very short. My current guess is that the 76 mph they referred to is the top speed of the launches with the actual top speed being faster due to the Rhine drop

76 MPH at the bottom means 207 foot drop meaning the top hat would be 147 feet.

IIRC a launch of about 70 is needed to clear 150 feet. Tempesto does it at 62 mph on a much shorter launch section. So a 62-70 mph launch on a stretch of track that long that doesn’t clear the top hat in the first launch is going to be the least intense slowest accelerating launch ever.

I don't think so. If that's that case, they'd have bulleted that. In the PA video, Intamin said top speed at about 76+ on the drop. Last launch up the 148ft top hat was 67mph.

That would be shorter than tempesto. If that were true than I would be a other disappointed

We have no way of knowing what the bulleted point was referring to. It literally just says top speed 76 MPH. Based on the next bullet being multi launch shuttle I definitely think it's feasible that they were referring to the launch speed.
I can't recall ever hearing anyone ever talk about the top speed of a launch coaster beyond what the top launch speed is. That might be due to the fact that typically the launch is the fastest portion of the ride but I'm sure there are some rides where that isn't the case.

@BGWnut Until we get some real numbers we could banter all night and no one would win. Yes, for those zero to 100 launchers you're right...its speed at launch. But look up the speed for SwD or the PA. In both cases the highest speed achieved was the initial drop of 76ish. If the top hat is 300ft+ then you're looking at Fury/Intimidator drop speeds of 90+ mph. I'd think they'd be bulleting that for sure.

So let's see what comes out. I was horrible in physics.

Stormrunner also carries a lot of speed over its top hat element. Moreso than most other intamin launch coasters. I wouldn't really use Stormrunner as an example here either due to the fact that it's a hydraulic launch and this is going to be a multi-launch.

Very true. Really hoping we get some more information beyond just a tease that they are building a coaster. I'm fine with them not giving all the information but I want a little more than they gave for BGT's RMC

Which would be a waste of metal, cement, planning resources, and money.
I should have said IF they use the full height waiver. I'm not convinced. But the SwD spike is 200 and the peak of their non-inverting loop (no top hat) is 157ft...for whatever that's worth. Lol

Big difference between 43 feet and whatever this ends up. Say the 76mph is right, means a 146 foot top hat, so what's the point of a spike 170 feet taller?

Here's the real question: would they really go through the trouble of engineering and installing this long of a launch that you pass through 3 times just to get to 76 MPH? If rides like Storm Runner can hit those speeds from a standstill, why would they bother with this complicated launch if it wasn't to build up enough speed to clear a large top hat?

The only thing I thought of (if they used the 300 that some insist they will) was to run them up backwards faster and higher...for a big speed back to the top hat (at the height you mentioned)...maybe not having to even use that fourth boost and save some LSM electricity.

@Thomas From the PA specs on their presentation
First launch to top hat- 51mph
Backwards launch up the spike- 60mph
Forward launch to crest 147 ft top hat- 67 mph

You'll have to ask Intamin why. I guess it's just the thrill of the boost backwards as well as forward again.

Variety of factors:

  • Less energy consumption using the launch
  • Theoretically less wear and tear on the electrical components of the launch due to less energy required
  • Pads ride length without having to add extra track
  • Easily marketable "reverse" section of the ride.
