Not just European cities—major cities in general.

Project Atlanta for instance was a cancelled SWO addition a few years back. Additionally, some of the recent Project Madrid filings have been made under the project name "Festa Italia Expansion."

There's still certainly a chance that Project Madrid is themed to Spain, but there are also other perfectly reasonable explainations for the project name.

My opinion, and this is just that, an opinion, is that Project Spain, is just a name. As has been pointed out, here and several time time previously that project names frequently have little to do with the actual ride. Having said that, Spain has certainly been desired, if not by SEAS then by the public for some time now. It certainly has come up several times in the past. Here is the thing, despite a couple of promising quarters and a official statement about new rides, SEAS is still not flush with cash. Their debt load is still rather large. If this ride is anything like the speculation suggests and is even marginally themed it is not going to be cheap. (I will not pretend to speculate on actual numbers) I just find it hard to believe that they could build a whole new area and a coaster in the same year.

Now having said all that, I think it is reasonable to guess that they might build a ride with expansion in mind. If it were me, I would build and place the ride so that it could fit in an existing area or so that it could be expanded around and perhaps moderately re-themed. Then I would see if draws significant crowds and is a windfall. I would THEN re-capitalize the windfall into a new area with room for more future flats and other items. Regardless I would slow roll the hamlet.

*Technically* all of those hamlets have more than one ride.

I don't think we'll see a new hamlet with this coaster. Like others have said, BGW makes references to "Festa expansion". You'll probably see (aside from the coaster station) maybe some sort of gift shop, a drink/food place and (hopefully) new rest rooms. But that all depends on how they plan to connect to the existing Festa

Makes sense, thanks.

Merlin do similar things with project names. Most big things are SW# (Secret Weapons) to drum up hype, which is something they've been doing since the early 90s. Then they do really intentionally obscure stuff... Saw was "Dylan" which turned out to be the name of someone's cat in later interviews.

So you'd think such a triggering name like "Madrid" was either legit, or an intentional red herring. They want us to have this discussion either way.

Or they're stupid, which, ya know... Is also very possible. :p

You know, or a Busch Gardens Williamsburg. I'm looking at you, France. And Switzerland (or like... Cold Germany?). And Scotland.
Nah, at least they feel like parts of a bigger picture at BGW. Merlin parks are jarring shifts into tiny pockets where the land is literally the signature ride in it. I know you guys really don't believe it, but BGW still feels like everything is part of the same whole.

Not Necessarily either. It could be as simple as they have a name list and that was the next one in line. Its not uncommon for companics to just have as theme list for this kind of stuff. has to remember that these names are used mainly internally to make leaks less likely. If you were to be referring to it as Mars' Mack or something like that s simple mention of the prodject gane could give a lot away. Remember these names really don't normally ever see the public light so what they are doesn't usually matter much. In fact it's my understanding that the only reason that this one came public was that JCC said that they needed a name in the height waver for some reason.

If you have a month to read this thread you'll see a great deal of rumors originate from (in no particular order) -
1. Kingsmill deer
2. A guy at the Dippin Dots cart
3. Random crew members of the trains
4. "A guy I know that knows a guy that works at the park"
5. PowerPoint slides that David Copperfield made appear magically
6. A dream
7. "Educated" guesses
and
8. "It's true because I say so"

You forgot "secret" plans obscured by a Nintendo system that don't match the park filings.

On a more serious note, I'm kind of bummed out that this is being considered an expansion to Festa and not to San Marco; imo that area could use a little bit of TLC.

I think it is probably easier and cheaper for them to carry over the "theming" of Festa versus trying to make an expansion to an Italian village, since San Marco is along the lines of how good looking England and Germany are. Areas like Oktoberfest and Festa are so easy to add to since they have such a huge blanket of theming and basically anything goes.
