I'm trying to find a park dumb enough to drop that kind of money on a coaster.

Last one that came to mind was Six Flags Magic Mountain, but they killed a manufacturer in the process of building X.
Let us not forget the $54 million down the drain that was Verbolten. Still more expensive than any of the North American gigas.

However, I'd be willing to bet that your numbers 1 and 2 could both be built for less than Verbolten, with cash left over for a couple flats.

I don’t really get what that has to do with it, and the fact that every time Verbolten is brought up, the cost magically goes up every time.

FWIW; Revenge of the Mummy is my #1, Lightning Rod #2. Maverick is actually #5 for me.

Ummmm... do you not know what park this board is on?

My main point was that BGW does drop "that kind of money on a coaster". And we're coming up on due. Eight years since the last high-budget ride, then six years back from there to the previous high-budget ride, and seven back to the one before that.

Hershey is most likely packing a coaster for 2020, and competes with BGW for the higher end of the DC market. We just gotta get a better coaster than they do.

For parks, the investment is important, but not as important as what the ride is. There’s a potential 4 year span of:
Family Coaster
Family Flat Ride
Thrilling Flat Ride
Thrilling Coaster

More parks try to alternate the Family/Thrill part; but that’s a good 4 year cycle to be on. Even if they replace Coaster with event or show at times, it’s the type of ride than cost. You don’t just spend because it’s been a while. You spend because what fits your cycle is a higher price tag.

This could go either way. With JR as acting CEO we could see money put into the park like his last project with the park. Alternatively, VB didn't exactly result in a financial boom for the park. With SEVERAL new projects going into all SEAS parks, I'm certain that many things are on the table. At this point I don't have my eggs in any particular basket.

That said, the last time BGW got any sort of record breaking coaster was Griffon. While it would be nice to see some new biggest or best, I think that BGW's lineup speaks for itself. Many people might differ here, but I'd argue that the overall quality of rides at BGW is still far and away better than that of any other park in the area. Each and every coaster at BGW is worth riding and offers something different. Carowinds KD and SFA all have heaps of rides, but many of them rank quite poorly in my honest opinion.

TLDR: Trust good 'ol John Reilly.

I am just going to say this about that. While I am no expert, I certainly do not think Bolt is worth the alleged $54m. (proof?) But you always say with finallity and certainty that it is a terrible ride without exception, as if everyone agrees. In fact you are the only person I know who thinks it is a complete waste of time. Frankly I am a drop snob, and it breaks my cardinal rule about turning in a main drop, but still I rather enjoy the ride. It is... unusual, and while not perfect quite fun. Frankly None of the people I go to the park with, most of whom are on this board would say it is terrible, awful, and horrible.

I just don't understand your angst. However having said that, to each there own.

Couldn't agree with you more on the comparison. You're right, other people do differ in opinion, but I think for other reasons. Everyone I know that chooses KD of BGW does so because they think the coasters are more thrilling. That may be, but much like you, I just like the quality and diversity that BGW has to offer. I am really hoping that somehow they bring in a record breaking ride (even if its only Virginia's first, or Virginia's tallest, or something) that offers another diverse experience.

Side note: Many of my friends view Verbolten as an amazing attraction, and since its addition, come to the park regularly. For me, its a good time filler, but for them, its one of the main attractions.

Let's go down the other parks, using the Wild Gravity Travels rumor sheet.

SeaWorld San Diego: Skywarp Horizon can't be too expensive.

SeaWorld San Antonio: "Longest wooden coaster in Texas". Boardwalk Bullet (3236 ft) is the longest of Texas's three still-operating wooden coasters. Moderate price tag especially compared to what the third SeaWorld is getting...

SeaWorld Orlando: If it's a launch coaster going 55 MPH, it could be Mack. Infinity Falls (Intamin) - what happened to that? Working with Intamin must be souring SWO on future products. And we know Mack is pretty expensive.

Busch Gardens Tampa: RMC Gwazi could be anything from a "Storm Chaser" just trashing one side, to "Twisted Colossus: Steel Vengeance".

Looking forward to us getting "Tempesto II: Full Throttle" with the money left over.

Here we go. This is the article you all should be reading. It actually talks about the supposed sourcing of the leaks a bunch of different sites (WildGravityTravels and BehindTheThrills to mention two) are running with right now.

If people have questions about the "leak," I'm more comfortable speaking about it now that I have sourced the "proof" independently.

Is that link supposed to redirect to the HoS thread

The linked article raises more questions than answers. Now it's a "family thrill" multi-launch coaster going 76 MPH. "Family" and "76 MPH multi-launch" are mutually exclusive.
