Soapbox take: KD's social media presence and information dissemination does SO MUCH HARM to the public's view of the park:

I think it's frustrating when an official press release goes out to certain influencers at 4 am, but nothing is mentioned by an official facebook page, instagram, website or app until the day is mostly done, and even then, the facebook page only confirms one show, among the number of things that actually went out in the press release. I think it can be a positive thing to build back relationships with influencers (including this site, KD Fanatics, Clint Novak, etc) and recognize their value in the community. However, using them ONLY to disseminate information just seems lazy and disconnected from the general public. Even something as simple as the Carowinds post announcing that the event lineup will be released the next day can build anticipation and goes along way in building confidence (and interest) in official social media pages.

Then, when the website finally updates to add just some of the events mentioned in the release, the write ups for the events (like Star-Spangled nights) still have 2025's dates, only mention 2025, and are copywritten by 2025. I know M&M Mars is a huge corporation, and cares very little about this, but in sponsoring an event, they SHOULD care about little things like this, because every time parts of the website/app go live with wrong or outdated information (like when season passes are first released every year), it impacts perception of a major corporation's brand.

I know that in the in-person meetings with corporate building back trust between Six Flags and the community was discussed. I know we all are constantly frustrated by the ever changing business decisions corporate has been making since the merger, with event changes, haunt passes, park hours, etc. Much of this comes down to a business that is in so much debt and a revolving number of leadership that don't yet have a clear vision. Every year I think it will improve and it doesn't. However, I think the BARE MINIMUM is to keep a website and app updated. It's almost like people in charge of KD's website are always caught off guard by when season pass sales will begin, or when a page will go live. Anyone with a high school tech class under their belt can do a better job than what's happening now. Why do we not demand more of a park that we all love?

As a teacher I represent the 9th largest school district in the country. Prior to teaching, I was in charge of social media outreach for a major traveling performing group, and was the social media outreach for a summer camp for 10 years prior to that. You can be sure that I've been taught the importance of every little detail of branding. Every tiny detail, picture to picture, post to post, word to word is carefully crafted. I thought with the recent posts of off-season maintenance projects that KD was on a different pathway to social engagement now, but once again I am left disappointed.

Corporate really needs to solve their constant backtracking on passes, add-ons, sales, selling parks, closing rides etc. In my roles I also recognize the unfortunate necessity of withholding behind-the-scenes dealings/conversations/decisions. However, if corporate really wants to BUILD BACK TRUST in their brand, it starts with showing that they actually care about their branding, and can hire someone to spend 10 minutes reading 2 paragraphs on a website before it is live. Releasing a press release and doing nothing with that same information yourself, only to make an old website page go live just makes the the park feel SO DISTANT from it's target audience. Even disseminating information like early park closings due to weather should not feel like a chore in 2026 when you have park-wide sound systems, social media pages, a website, and an app.

I love KD, but shouldn't we all demand better communication? The park has been doing a great job in recent years investing in upkeep, retracking, retheming, adding more entertainment, and updated food and retail, and employees work so hard to keep KD great. Don't miss opportunities to showcase your yearly offerings and changes.

Partnering with one of the most popular athletes in the world seems like a pretty smart business move to me? Especially since he has previously been vocal about his love of the parks.
Agreed this is a smart move. Even if you hate him, he is a pretty positive role model all things considered. Let's make him dance in front of buses like the new Mr. Six.

The only dumb thing about this is they just sold off the Kansas City park that would’ve benefited the most from this
Agreed this part is dumb, and extra poor timing.

I agreed, I felt like six flags should have gone with jalen hurts from the eagles instead
What?? I’m a diehard Eagles fan and I think you’re fundamentally misunderstanding why they chose Travis Kelce. The gap in public recognition between him and Hurts (or all but like 5 other players TBH) is massive, and so just swapping in another NFL player for Travis Kelce (who I dislike, by the way) would not work.

well because six flags sold the kansas city parks so what the point of getting travis kelce for six flags?

and anyways, im smelling the removal of the theme park side of the water park in favour of the return of the lake

To get this thread back on track, and to provide an update, the website did fix event descriptions to 2026 now, and updated the Splash parade to have a short write up as well. Thankful for that, but still don't understand why write ups aren't correct when they go live in the first place.

4 days ahead of schedule... View attachment 41561

So are these "dates listed below" in the room with us right now or...?

Also, for anyone who comes across this and instantly wants to react re: one of the closures, do it in the appropriate attraction thread (such as the ongoing Flight of Fear closure discussion here). Want to keep this thread on the specific topic of communication quality (or lack thereof) at Kings Dominion.

That's an odd assortment of rides. It makes me wonder if they just got a little too ambitious with pushing opening day up by a week and haven't finished commissioning all the rides yet.

At least the Eiffel Tower isn't on that list for a change... for now.

Woodstock is being retracked so there's a chance that it won't be running by opening weekend because of that.

Windseeker is usually 50-50 on whether or not its running at any given time.

The only real wildcard is FOF. Hopefully its just temporary. I really enjoy the ride.
White Water also hasn't been opening till close to memorial day lately so that one was to be expected.

I find many companies are suffering from communication issues these days. Between centralizing marketing efforts (typically what these comms fall under) to the sheer number of platforms to update to relying on AI to write the comms for you it’s just gotten worse and worse. Makes me appreciate how spectacularly bad you need to be to get your own thread.

So I'm in a fairy unique-for-me position of having not bought a KD pass for 2026 (moved my grandfathered SFA membership to SFGAdv and get access to KD that way from here on out—it's a whole thing). Anyway, it means I've been getting the "please come back"-type communications from KD this off-season.

Pretty damn ballsy of them to still be advertising "Includes Free Parking & Haunt" with zero asterisk and/or fine print about Haunt attractions not being included. Feels INCREDIBLY slimy.
