There was also a petting zoo at the Forest of Fun. It was full of mean pushy goats.
The monorail to the Brewery had a station at the Lorikeet Glen area.
There was a renaisanse type faire at the Wolf Haven area.
The Wild Maus (formerly the Wild Izzy) was in the DarkKastle spot.
Questor became Corkscrew Hill became Europe in the Air.

The arcade became Questor I think.
and Glissade became Wild Izzy

my very favorite ride ever was the Spider ride...my cousin and I rode that thing many times in a row at night, loved it with the lights on!

The spider was the first ride I ever rode at Busch Gardens. I was there on a band trip in 9th grade. The people I was with somehow missed LNM and headed through what is now Ireland and New France, etc. Being pre-Alpie, we walked for ages and I began to wonder if this place had any rides at all.

Finally, we got to Germany and there was the Black Spider. After that, we got right in line for BBW, which was my first coaster ever.

Chris, when I was looking through an old box in the attic, I discovered an old mug with Eagle One on it. I'll have to take a photo and post it on the merchandise page. :)

how 'bout the petting zoo? It isn't exactly a ride but that thing is to me what the Wolf is to Nora. I have some of my oldest memories from that thing. I think that it was a victim of busch's success. The park was transforming from a small local gem, to a full blown national attraction. Nationals just don't have those kind of things. I would much rather see the area be used as a petting zoo once again than to have it turned into the pimple on the face of Busch that the Forest of Dumb.

I loved the petting zoo, but after the whole Mad Cow thing in Europe, they were very restrictive on who could enter (if you had traveled overseas in the past 3 months, I think, no entry), it was shuttered for some time and then the space was used for a HoS scarezone. Someone correct me if I am wrong, not sure.
Also, does anyone remember the birds in the Octoberfest sign leading from the Carousel into Octoberfest. Why did they leave? My wife and I always talk about them when we walk past.

I remember the birds in the cages too; and I noticed that when you ride the train from Festa to New France in a storage area to the left (right past the old Drachen Fire station) you can still see the old wrought iron cages and even some of the old bridge structure that was a part of the other Oktoberfest bridge long gone.

Oh and speaking of animals in the park; way before Pompeii the path that led to Italy once had a few cages along the path. I am not sure, but I think one held some sort of small birds and the other held little monkeys.

This Is a old ride that I remember from the late 70's early 80's

Went through some old Busch pictures and found one picture of how the boats used to look. and a picture of a "tilt a wirl" type ride. and the last picture is when they used to have large wild animals (not petting zoo) that roamed the park and viewable from the train, sorry this one is a little burry.

This used to outside the entrance coming from the england parking lot...

If you look carfully you will see the remote contol boats that used to be at the bottom of loch ness hill

A picture of my son in 1996 at the petting zoo

Those are awesome! I remember the tilt-a-whirl thing now. I think it was near the Spider. I can't recall those boat looking swings. Where were those?

Not sure if you all ready have this one, but here is a 1983 map scan to help with layouts at that time...

That was the golden age for me... I can't tell you how many of these maps I had in my pocket those early 80's years. In the other pocket I had my "The Old Country" blacksmiths horseshoe with my name stamped in it and the round "old country" logo on the bottom of each side, that was the best souvenir! The map stayed the same for quite a few years if I remember correctly with only minor changes to the text below just about until the BBW came around 85'.

One thing I did notice was that for the Map during these times some of the rides had the "dumbed down" name like just "spider" instead of the full German Die Schwartze Spinne theme name and such...

Notice the ticket boths were AT the entrance at that time, and there was still free pet boarding at the pet kennels...The gypsy wagon was actually and attraction then...the 2 old wooden roller coasters in Oktoberfest...Italy was just 1 section

Ok here is the oldest complete map with key I have found circa 1978, take a look at the drawing at the bottom left, WOW!

does anyone have any pics of Grimms Hollow? I was the place for kids. I used to love it but for some reason I can't remember where it used to be located. I think it was where Land of the Dragons. Thanks!

Was in LotD the other day and something clicked that had been bugging me for a long time. That Grimm's Hollow sign is still in use. It is in the back and is used as the dual entrance for the boats and the ladybugs. The dwarves have been replace by two dragons of course. That sign never seemed to flow for me back there. Now I know why!

I remember really liking the Gladiator's Gauntlet.

And I never knew they ever had a Chance Trabant! Those things are awesome. I wish more parks still had them.
