I made this thread to address old amusement/theme park rumors you remember from back in the day that never happened. I remember rumors of Spain or Sweden being considered for Busch gardens Williamsburg where big bad wolf: the wolf revenge now stood or rumors of a giga coaster coming to six flags great adventure or the rumors of kennywood getting a rmc coaster

  • Polar Coaster.
  • Magnum XL-200 was sinking, and that was going to be a big problem, honest.
  • Blackpool was going to build a launch coaster that crossed the nearby roadway and went out to the beach and back.
  • Wildwood was going to get a huge wooden coaster that crossed the beach and ran between two piers.
  • CGA was going to get a hyper with an elevator lift, and Knotts was going to get something huge, like giga-huge.
Good fun to discover which of these (and so many others) got into the planning stages. Park operators think realllly big too.

There was a time period pre-Laff Trak where there was a rumor of Hershey Arena being turned into an indoor launched coaster for Hersheypark.

Ahh yes, Knotts 347. As much as I'd love it, Buena Park would sooner unincorporate than allow that to be built. What a shame.

This would have been called Boardwalk Flyer IIRC. Also kind of a shame this one didn't go through, I recall hearing they thought it would be too expensive long-term.

There were rumors that the ride rotation program was coming back and Great Adventure was losing Medusa in like 2012. It was also around that time that people were pretty convinced that Twister was closing imminently.

I also seem to recall some believing that Old Country was going to reopen, despite the two remaining rides (Autobahn and Musik Express) being gutted and in abysmal shape.

In the early 2000s there were plans to relocate Flight of Fear from Kings Dominion to Carowinds. From what I've gathered there were a few different potential plans for where it would've been located and how it would be themed at Carowinds, one of these plans was having FOF replace Carolina Cyclone and giving it an MTV theme, it also would've been outdoors (there's supposedly concept art floating around for this but I haven't seen it). This ultimately didn't happen for a couple reasons, one because Richard Zimmerman (then park president of Kings Dominion) really liked FOF and didn't want to see it go, and the plan ultimately died when Cedar Fair bought out the Paramount Parks.

CGA was going to get a hyper with an elevator lift
To add on to this, there were plans to move this to Kings Dominion once it fell through at Californias Great America, but those plans fell through when Morgan went bankrupt in 2001.

More rumor fun. The list is endless, so I'll stop after this.
  • BGW was Definitely For Sure going to get a bobsled ride in the New France area, which was Definitely For Sure going to be rethemed to Switzerland.
  • SFMM's next standup coaster after losing Shockwave was going to be named Aftershock.
  • Desperado and Steel Phantom both topped 90 mph at some point in their operating lifetimes.
  • KD's King Kobra and pretty much every other looping ride built before 1990 threw people out during the inversions and killed them.
  • Magnum XL-200 was actually 200+ feet tall, and in no way slightly shorter than 200 feet.

  • Wildwood was going to get a huge wooden coaster that crossed the beach and ran between two piers.

the first pic here is a rendering but the rest are the scale model as built and plans

I have a large morey's piers book at home, I swear it contains better pics of the model but I might be imagining that

The wildwood woodie and cga elevator hyper were real. I don’t have them on me but I know with certainty I have seen them.

And there they are lol. That’s my post from a few years ago.

I’ll also throw my hat in the ring here. In the late 1980s early 1990s, Riverside park (now SFNE) began building a in house rapids ride. I have not seen a single photo of this whatsoever but there are multiple mentions of it online. It’s my goal eventually to find a photo.

Additionally, lake Compounce in the early 2000s was apparently considering a family spinning coaster that just never came to be.
