Does anyone else think the sound mix is just really poor compared to last year?

It was good at the show I saw. I guess it all depends who's in the booth.

I have some experience with mixing boards and live music so I semi-know what I'm talking about.

The drummer in Night Beats posted a 360 degree video of the view from the band pit during "Let's Get Crazy" on his Facebook feed. It's a rare look at the show from a totally unique perspective. If the admins relax the "don't link to employees" policy, I'll post a link. It's public, so anyone can view it if they can find it.

I thought public posts in public places were fair game. @Zachary ?

I have been the music director for the orchestra in the festhaus for Halloween and Christmas the past few years. My last rehearsal (that I usually give my input on the sound) was actually canceled this year due to the hurricane. Hopefully everything sounds alright, it worries me when I don’t get any final say on the tech night. The festhaus is a tough space anyway. You sit in one spot it sounds fantastic, you move two tables over and things get lost. So I’m hoping the person that thought the sound was off was just sitting in a tough spot

This is a super excellent point.

I'm now very tempted to take some notes on the speaker placement and room dimensions... I think we could draw up a sweet map for this forum of best places to sit for the best accoustics.

Well it sounds CLEANEST.... in the booth lol. But good luck sitting up there. Generally speaking, I think the closer to center stage you are, you’re better off than sitting on either side- but that’s not a very shocking revelation, nor is it true 100% of the time. A map would be a very interesting idea

Of the many shows I have seen this season ive sat dead center halfway between the stage and booth, juat off center of the stage very front, all the way to one side halfway back and a few other various places inbetween and the sound is muddy to me. I personally thing burrying the band in that hold is a mistake, they sounded so much better when they were on the stage and you could hear then instead of listening to them through speakers. Some shows the singers have sounded great, some shows only a couple sounded great, and one show we couldnt understand anything they were singing. I also noticed the sound before the show was rich with deep bass and crisp highs but as soon as the show started the sound changed so I dont think it was the speakers or layout of them. I will say that Monster Stomps sound was off last weekend. I felt like there was no front speakers and all the vocals were coming from behind us which really makes things odd. Another thing was in past years I felt like I could somewhat hear the singer singing in addition to the sound through the speakers (we were sitting in the 4th row dead center) but this year I couldnt hear anything from anyone.

I was sitting within two tables of a main PA speaker, directly facing me. Maybe it was an off night.

I hope it was an off night, it didn't deserve to sound that way.

Sat tonight in the exact same spost as once befor this season and sound was better.

My entire party had the same response to this show.

"What?"

The lack of a story and the average performance quality just makes it underwhelming. If it doesn't have insane vocalists, it falls flat.

Unfortunately I missed the show this year but I have so many fond memories. I hate to hear people say its terrible now. Or have these same people always thought it was terrible? Or am I just a sentimental fool (terrible 38 Special reference which would be more appropriate in Kilarney)?
