No trombone no sax not as much comedy as last year anyhow I did watch the show again today and as a group who watched it not a single one likes it as good as last years show it dont even sound the same I am not saying this version isnt any good but falls way short of last years show. London Rocks gets better each time I watch it just cant see Mix It Up getting any better.....

Yeah, I can't agree with any bit of that.

They removed the pointless, cheesy, and all around crappy story and acting bits and focused on what the theater is made for and good at: A music show. It's clear to me that they took everything they learned from not only Mix it Up, but also Dig it Up and Grape Smashers to craft the 2014 version of Mix it Up and I honestly do think it came out brilliantly.

Truthfully, I think a sax doesn't have much of a place in the show. It just stands out so much from the rest of the instruments, and isn't anywhere near the caliber of the sound that the other instruments make. Also, technically, the chefs in Orange who look like they have bigger versions of a trumpet, could pass as a trombone. They don't look like a trombone, but the size of the pipes causes them to have very similar sounds.

And if the park finds a Saxaphone player, the Aquitaine Village Band automatically gets dibs, just sayin'.

Thanks for posting the video! Can't wait to see this in person, hopefully soon. Sounds like taking out the sax and adding in the baritone and mellophone has made for a much richer brass sound! Looks and sounds like a great show to me!

Well, I still don't know what Power Ranger chefs have to do with San Marco....but that's probably the best version of what Mix It Up is that is possible.

I agree with this attitude, at least to an extent. As I said over in the London Rocks thread, there gets to be a point where you just have to "get over it" as far as the basic idea for the show goes. The idea of Italian chefs and waiters tying the show to the San Marco theme just because they both overlap at "Italian" is a little too loose for my liking, but what's happened has happened. At least the show, for what it is, is well done; unlike Entwined which has a weak concept and arguably weaker production, and London Rocks which seems to have fallen somewhere in the middle.

I suppose I would prefer something more authentic like back in Busch Gardens' "golden years," but as long as this show is around, that ship has sailed. Sometimes the "just have fun" mindframe is the best way to go, as far as appreciating something for what it is. That's definitely not always the case, but Mix It Up, especially with its 2014 improvements, exemplifies that. Just my thoughts.

OK, after consulting with someone far more knowledgeable about music instruments than I, we have more or less concluded the following:

There are TWO marching trombones (orange).
There are TWO marching tubas (green).
There are TWO marching French horns/mellophones (yellow).

If anyone else can elaborate on the last one that would be great cause we're not certain which they are.

^Well, marching French horns are mellophones. You can't march with a normal French horn, so the turned into a big looking trumpet type of thing so it is easier to march with. It still has the same pitches and note fingerlings.

I've.never heard of a marching trombone. I assume it's a euphonium of some sort which has the same pitch as a trombone, and is keyed like a trumpet.

There's a really great moment in MIU...

Really enjoyed miu this weekend. We watched the show in the theater and were also able to hear it while we were on the bridge by the boats.

The revised (2014) version of the show is very good. I'm glad they have updated it with the pots & pans section. One thing I did notice is that show is very testosterone heavy, not one female in yesterday's 5pm show.

Am I the only one who finds it a bit un-slightly that the "waitors," are practically wearing yoga pants? I kind of dread whenever they turn around on stage, not very pretty.

Finally got to check out the new MIU yesterday afternoon. Everyone in my party loved it! The only negative I really have is that it's LOUD. Yes, I know it's supposed to be, but even I had to hold my ears once or twice and we were in the very back of the theater. Other than that, I really liked the upbeat feeling of the whole show.

I caught this show yesterday and while it wasn't as good as I had hoped, I left feeling that I would like to see it again.(not how I felt after LR) The music was really good as well as the creativity with the pots, pans, and barrels. It does need some kind of female presence though. A couple belly dancer girls maybe? I don't know...something girly.
