"Six Flags Magic Mountain is putting its parking lots to work with a new 12.37-megawatt (MW) solar installation – California’s largest solar carport. It’s expected to generate enough electricity each year to offset the annual power use of both the amusement park and neighboring Hurricane Harbor Los Angeles.

Six Flags says the installation in Valencia is one of the largest single-site commercial solar carport projects in the US."

"The parks are still connected to the utility Southern California Edison. They can draw grid power when onsite generation falls short and export surplus electricity when onsite demand and available battery storage are covered. Ultimately, the plan is to offset 100% of annual electricity consumption."

Every large parking lot out there should have this done. Solar Panels are great, and you get to park in the shade!! It's only upside!!

Parks especially should be all over this. Covered parking is a selling point of upcharge parking options. Give me upcharge solar-covered parking with AC car chargers a la Epic Universe. I'll happily pay for the added comfort and convenience.

I'd love Great Adventure to add even more covered parking in the Preferred and General lots.

Why spend a dime on covered parking when you can just charge $45 for general parking without any sort of amenities? The money is better spent on more important purchases like stock buybacks anyway.

It’s not just parks that should be doing this. I’m a huge advocate for solar covered parking. Between EV chargers, lighting, cameras, and energy savings it’s smart. But then there’s the less heralded things like sun protection for cars, reduced snow removal costs (northern climates), and ability to sell excess energy to the grid that make this a win.
