RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

Overall, I am surprised by many of the negative reactions. I didn't like the show too much last year. It was too inconsistent. This year, it's as if they literally went through the show and fixed everything we complained about in last years version.

Many of the things that we complained about are gone entirely. The queen is gone, so are the puppets, and they removed the unnecessary story and dialogue. Another major change (which I'm surprised nobody brought up) is the removal of the constant references to LSD and other narcotics that were in the show. They even went as far as to depict the Octopuses Garden scene as an imaginary, light humor song. Personally, the Octopuses Garden segment is the only thing I dislike about the show this year.

This year, rather than trying to create an elaborate storyline, they went with the idea of going on a "magical mystery tour" through music. This is a reference to the Beatles song by the same title. In fact, the songs actually tied together in the end with the main theme of the show, which was "all you need is love". All of this was put together by one simple preshow. (However, I think the preshow can use some improvements to say the least.)

When you have a musical show that is limited to 30 minutes, you cannot have interruptions like last year's show. Between every scene they had animations that no one laughed at. In fact many people thought they were offensive. It's a good thing that they decided to move straight to the next song.

I enjoyed the music very much. They were even able to fit and songs that didn't make it previously. I especially appreciated not having to deal with useless interruptions between every scene. Finally, although I love all of the new projections, the music is what makes the show for me. The fact that they keep the show and music flowing without going off-track makes it much smoother.

Edit: I apologize for the length of this review. Like I said, I plan to write a better review this weekend. This will just have to do for now. Any thoughts?

Just because they fixed somethings, doesn't mean they didn't screw up something else entirely. I'm glad the queen and the puppets are gone. And I took no issue with mentions of LSD. I don't know many people who did have issues with the mentions of it.

There's still a lot of things wrong with the show. I just don't think this sort of show works for a theme park. A concert experience, sure that might work. But when it goes from a concert mashup of well known British rock, to Octopuses Gardens back to a concert and then into a story where nobody has any idea as to what's happening. Other than they're running in place to Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and there's fighting. The execution is poor.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

You definitely have a valid point. However, given the circumstances with the budget right now, I don't know how anyone could expected anything more. They certainly didn't make it worse. Also, the "fighting" is not choreographed the same way this year. I think the video that Zachary posted on Instagram did the show a real injustice. Either way, I still don't think the show really belongs in the park, but I think they did a very good job with what they had.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

I feel like they tried to combine two different shows together. Which is a problem in itself. If it was just the story of LR v1 on a smaller scale (ie, take the first half of LR and expand that. No kids. No family fighting. just working on the couple and end it with a wedding.), it probably would have worked. If it was just a concert montage, it could have worked. But they tried to mesh the two together with very little regard to how to even put them together in the first place. Which is a problem.

I didn't expect much from the show in the first place, considering last years version + budget cuts. But, this version is trying to be two different shows at the same time. It just doesn't work. They completely switch tracks come the second half of the show. And don't really refer back to the first half.

Like okay she got to go on stage twice. I'm going to assume the band in the second half is the same band from the concert, not because they're played by the same people. But, because I still have no idea who these people are.

Maybe I'm over thinking it, but it really doesn't work from any stand point. It needed to be one or the other, not both.

I feel like I'm insane reading all these "last year's show was awful" reviews and then I feel like I'm insane AND taking extra crazy pills with all these "this year's show is improved but still bad" reviews.

Nah man, you're free to like what you like. If you like the show more power to you. And with more people not liking it, it just means less people in line and better seats for you. :)

Yes, I agree. I don't mean to sound like anyone's opinions here are "wrong", just venting lol.

Out of three days of shows we saw, the theatre was only past half-full in one show because of the rain.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

I finally saw the "new and improved" version over the weekend. I think it's awful. Last year's first version in early April/May made more sense. It was a loose story of girl meets boy, gets married, has kids and strife. The music was the story of their life. This "new" version is just a mash-up (poorly done) of songs from the British invasion, except for the one Romantic's song (they're from Detroit). It felt like a Glee episode, except without all the drama and tiresome dialog. I can see why the theater is half full. I might see it again, if only to get out of the rain or heat.

Saw the show for the first time (I know) yesterday, Horrible. Just bad. No good plot, bad acting, and really bad mash-ups. They tried SO hard to make it make sense, but it was just bad. I literally have nothing good to say about it except the AC was heavenly in the theater.

boy meets girl at concert, they fall in love, boy messes with groupies, they fight and make up, they marry

The song choice/what small dialogue there was could have been written and chosen better to help it make more sense.

(Last year's show) Offensive stereotypes, insulting the Queen, acid trips, and creepy puppets versus a show where they don't spell out everything and insult your intelligence by spelling out everything that is happening right in front of you (this year's show). Basically, I don't think either versions of the show are what I would like to see from Busch Gardens. However, the pros and cons weigh differently for me this year.

RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)

To me, I have the exact same feelings about the show this year as I did last year. And that is, it's just dumb, is of no interest to me, not made for the park, and definitely not worth my time. I was able to dissect the plot with just a little difficulty, as I did last year. There are some okay aka bearable parts and then there are other parts where I just feel like walking out of the theatre, as I did last year.

At this point, I couldn't give any less craps about the show. The only thing it's doing from my standpoint is sucking up money that could be better used just about anywhere else.

Can I get an amen? Seriously though, I only watch the show for maybe two scenes. I like the transition into Strawberry Fields, and I have always liked the wedding scene. The wedding scene, to me, almost looks like it was made for a completely different show. Sure, it is also cartoonish, and by no means real, but I love the fantasy side of it. It is also something that fits a little bit more in a Busch Gardens show.

Here are two gifs for reference. You may want to open it in a new tab, and zoom in.

To clarify my position, I think it was mediocre last year. If you look at my review, I found some parts offensive, but mostly I just didn't care about it one way of another. I do think there were worse shows in the park last year.
