$10.99 after using a discount and a reward for a lunchable? I feel sorry for anyone that paid full price for that. And is that really supposed to be for 2 people?
The event space looks quite nice and the change of scenery in old VA is appreciated. The side activities were quite cool to see as well.
Too bad the food and wine offerings ended up being mediocre in our eyes. Bonus negative points for The Parched Pig reeking of vomit so bad that you could barely stand being in there long enough to order something, even when there wasn't a line.
I thought the offering were quite nice. The bacon wrapped dates, whipped goat cheese spread and lemon Ricotta were the stand outs for me. I enjoyed everything that we tried in the Flight of Spreads and Sommelier's Selection.
If I make it back this weekend I'll try the spreads. We opted for the charcuterie instead and as regular lovers of a good "shark board", it was underwhelming to the point where when combined with acceptable wine and the beautifully-wafting smell of vomit, we didn't have a ton of motivation to keep working through the rest of the food.
I finally got the chance to attend the event this past weekend, and overall, both my wife and I were pretty impressed.
As mentioned previously in this thread, size of the food offerings for the price is certainly questionable; though my wife and I can't complain, as I think both our charcuterie and baker's basket somehow rang up free, after the Pass Perk discount. However both were tasty; but not tasty enough if paying full price. And our wine flights had very generous pours (way more than the advertised 2 ounces).
I also liked how nice and laid back this event was. I mention this, as having recently visited Worlds of Fun during their KC Nights, that event was much different.
KC Nights had special food and drink offerings like all park events. But the live performances were so loud that you could essentially hear them on the other side of the park -- where even though I would have loved to sample some of the food and drink, given the raw decibel levels, I could not sit comfortably, and sadly did not want to spend any time and avoided that side of the park (which was at the park's front entry).
Granted, KC Nights is a near Grand Carnivale-level equivalent for Worlds of Fun. But in my opinion, these smaller level events like Food and Wine here can be just as enjoyable... giving an excuse as something new for folks to come out and visit.
So I'm hoping KD deems this event as successful, so that we see more -- but I just hope they work on the food offerings, bringing them up to the same level of the (great) Grand Carnivale offerings.
I walked through this event, but didn't partake. It looked nice, and I agree it was great that they didn't make it loud. When I walked past there was a musician playing a saxophone at a reasonable volume level. Liked that they had corn hole and chairs to relax in. I would have participated if this wasn't my one amusement park visit for the season. Too much riding to catch up on.
