I don't care about any other day during Howl-o-Scream. The energy and the antics from tonight made me have so much fun. This one night made the entire event.

^^^^This!

I couldn't agree more with this. Tonight was the best night I've ever had at HOS, ever. For example, my friends and I made two Pirates from Cut Throat actually double over from laughing at us. One of us,Stephanie, actually fell on her butt from a guy that popped around the corner in front of her face, she screamed so hard she actually fell backwards. It was hilarious. He immediately started laughing and I high-fived him for getting her so good.

Best.night.ever.

The first pic is NOT the same frame that's posted elsewhere.

The third pic is a zoom 'n' crop of the second pic, showing the face that Nate pulled in that frame.

The last pic is the cast attacking their show manager.

These people were FANTABULOUS!!!

I forgot to mention this, but in the Tweedside and Festa train stations, they were playing the pre-board audio for "Jack's Pumpkin Express" before the train arrived during both visits to HOS I made this year. For those who don't remember, Jack's Pumpkin Express was a dumbed-down, "family friendly" version of the haunted train ride, which consisted mostly of just Halloween lights, music, and a few decorations that ran 2009/2010-ish. I think, like the original haunted train, it only stopped in Caribou Station, but needless to say, it was short-lived.

Anyway, I thought that was weird that both places were playing it before the train came (didn't get a chance to see if it played in New France). And it gave me this really crazy idea. Don't take it seriously, because I don't know why I thought of this, but I'll post it anyway, just for your amusement. For some reason, I wonder if the near absence of the Lady of the Gardens from the event this year (no song, no RoaE), plus maybe this small nod to Jack, could mean that the park is looking to return Jack to being the event's mascot, or maybe they wish to use both characters: one as more of simply an icon/logo, and one to use as the event's mascot. If you'd asked me, I would say Jack was more marketable and had more options. Both characters work for me as far as the event goes, though.

Anyways, I just thought that might be interesting, since everything is so dull with the park closed. Going through withdrawal!

A few of us had a nice surprise on the train one night on the last weekend of HOS. One of our favorite train conductors/operators did something very simple, but special on the back side of the park. We left the Festa station, crossed the trestle, and then this happened...

HOS - Train - Spooky Poem

I would absolutely love it if they dimmed the lights on the train a bit (maybe use soft red ones) and read short stories/poems like this. They would have to be short because of the distance between stations, and the person reading them needs to have that certain voice; one that is both soothing and creepy. Our buddy James has such a voice. We thanked him for adding to the atmosphere of our experience and were sure to stop by customer relations to let them know what an awesome job he was doing. Thanks again James!!

EDIT:
Skip to about the 3 1/2 minute mark if you don't want to listen to the train ride with us leaving the Festa Train Station. :p

Here's a question for the people who went often, how did the crowds compare to previous years? Were there many days near capacity or when they had to use the lots across the street?

I went quite a bit, and as far as I know there was one capacity day; the first Friday where the free "Bring a Friend" deal was in place. That being said, the park looked and felt very full on the four Saturdays I went, and on several of the Sundays and Fridays in mid-late October. I'd be curious to see the actual attendance numbers though.

I was hoping to forget that day. They should call it 'don't bring a friend and stay at home if you're smart' day. Any time you have to park across the street is usually a sign you don't want to be there. I look forward to using my new pass and NEVER seeing that side of RT 60 again :p

I was at HOS every weekend, sometimes twice. I don't do the scare houses, so my idea of busy and someone else's will vary greatly. As long as I can get a decent seat for Night Beats at Festhaus, and the line isn't going out the door at Grogan's, I'm usually a happy camper.

Aside from the Bring a Friend Fiasco, I had no issues with capacity...

I was just curious how this years attendance compared to previous years. Since I don't think they release any data about it this was the best way I could think of.

It all happened so fast. Sorry for poor quality. I wonder if this is the young lady who took a fall, was sent for medical attention, consequently ending the kidnappings on Ripper Row.

Still kicking myself for not being able to be see this in person. Darn night shift.

From personal experience, attendance is about on par if not a little busier than previous years. Despite a few bouts of bad weather, the hot season didn't really last all that long so the end of summer was fairly busy (Labor Day weekend and July 4th and the following days were particularly bad). The Bieber clone that played Memorial Weekend brought heavy crowds as well.

Spring crowds were pretty much all band trips and school groups. Weather wasn't too bad outside of the cold spell earlier in the season and a few random weekends here and there, so there were Saturdays where the park felt pretty packed.

Back to HOS. HOS crowds feel about the same as last year. Lines out the door for the major stuff, people parking in the grass, wall to wall people on Saturdays in September and October (didnt seem to happen much in previous years). Crowds seemed heavier on Fridays and Sundays too.

Thanks! That's what i was hoping to hear. I only made it during the morning during hos and it was expectantly very slow. Glad to hear it picked up!

Since it's almost time for Christmas Town, here is a little gift featuring highlights from the HOS Finale of Ripper Row:
