Are kids allowed to wear costumes to howl-o-scream

Nope. For safety reasons.

From te FAQ

Can I wear a costume to Howl-O-Scream?
No. For the safety of our guests and performers, we do not allow costumes in the park any time of the year, but especially not during Howl-O-Scream®. Guests can visit one of our face-painting booths to get transformed into a favorite Halloween character.

Also, don't know the ages of your kids, but a lot of children have been very scared this year.

Is Howl-O-Scream® suitable for kids?
Maybe not. After 6 p.m., guests are advised to consider the park’s elevated scare factor when deciding to visit Busch Gardens with young children during Howl-O-Scream.

The criteria I've been hearing is that security needs to be able to recognize your face, so it can't be obsecured by masks or super heavy makeup. Though I've seem some pretty heavy park-applied face paint which would seem to violate that guideline.

The official rules which I posted in the Security thread a few months back which you can find here http://forum.parkfans.net/thread-2322.html?highlight=security but, Costumes and Masks are prohibited, face paint is allowed due to the fact the park will paint your face inside so you might as well paint your face before you go. They may make exceptions for children who appear under 12 years old for costumes, but absolutely no mask for anyone and it is a Class 6 Felony in the State of Virginia to wear a mask out in public if you are over the age of 16. Some exceptions do apply within the law, but generally just don't do it because they don't want people to conceal their identity.

I will say there is great debate as what constitutes as a costume and basically it is up the the discretion of the officer on duty to determine if they think you are wearing a costume. Some people slip through; however, most of the major noticeable ones don't. I have heard of people wearing super hero shirts with capes told that they can not wear a cape because the cape makes it a costume.

Personally, I don't understand why anyone would wear a costume period just because it doesn't make sense. Its not a costume party, you're not trick or treating, thats like dressing up as Santa in the middle of July for no apparent reason.

There are actual safety reasons behind no costumes, you may blend in too well with the scare actors and get punched, creating a liability or you may encourage another person to dress like a scare actor and create a liability. But those are just a few reasons.

So, we went to the Scare House haunted house in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and it is supposed to be in the top 10 haunted houses in the country, but I was really disappointed. I got a couple good scares, but BGW got me WAY more. Now I know not to say BGW is really disappointing, because this haunted house was really disappointed. It did have FANTASTIC themeing, but not very good scares. Great hiding places available, but most stood in the open and acted creepy. Well, that's $65 down the drain. :(

Probably so. Either that or today was some sort of unannounced "bring your kid to Howl-O-Scream for free" night. I can't think of any other way to explain the massive hordes of young children roaming the park today. Scarier than the Terror-tories if you ask me.

Okay after going through all the haunted houses and terror-Tories for another time today, I have to agree with Zach, they are really lacking on scares. There were only a couple actors in each terror-Tory. And today was my first time this year going through 13 your numbers up, and I didn't even get scared once. That's pathetic in my opinion, and I heard many people say tonight that the event isn't scary enough.

Thread to be Merged with another....

I have made several attempts to post this, but none seem to have worked. I am asking advise as to the good mazes to go through. The past 7 seasons, I have not had the opportunity to view them and would like to this year. We went through Deadline and CutThroat Island last Friday and thought they were pretty boring. Any ideas as to the others? We have one more visit this Fall next Friday. Thanks

I would say on a slow and dry day, there is about 8 or so demons, 9 or so Brits, 10 pirates, and several vampires. Keep in mind Terror-tories are about theming and immersion not scares. On a rainy day, I imagine the cut staffing by half. I don't mind not having scares as long as you successfully immerse me with street actors. For example, you can sit and have a five minute conversation with a British Police Man, not getting scared just creeped out.

This weekend is suppose to clear up with highs in the 60s and partly cloud according to the weather.com forcast. I'm expecting it to be very busy. I'm hoping their will be a good amount of scare actors out in the terror-tories.

I'm trying to bring a friend who does not have a pass this Friday. I have a BG one-year pass, do I get any discounts for that?
