I can not imagine any situation where a DJ would enhance a "scary" experience. Proper music? Without a doubt. Any presentation where a DJ is there comes off as cartoon-y. I imagine either a DJ spinning on some instrument in something similar to Baron Munchhausen or History of the World: Part One or him saying something along the lines of, "I shall drop these sick-ass beats while you torment the mortals".
Oh PK, as someone who doesn't do parties or clubs I can see why you have an issue with the area, but I can certainly assure you I've been to clubs where the atmosphere is "spooky" on a regular night and the DJ certainly helped maintain the atmosphere and the mood. You make fun of things you don't like and therefore I can see perfectly why your idea of this done properly is cartoony and straight corny.
Last year, presence wise, Demon DJ was terrible. He had no clue what he was doing, whatsoever... And he wasn't a real DJ which did not help him at all. A good DJ can manipulate the crowd and atmosphere with music, and Talks on the mic ONLY to improve that atmosphere of the event. Dj's don't only play concerts and events and the corny wedding-dj type of people the park seems to book are no comparison to those who are immersed in the DJ culture.
The park needs a club DJ who has experience with a selection of spooky music and a intimidating stage presence. The park needs a LIVE PERFORMANCE DJ. Not a wedding DJ. Not a corporate DJ. Not an actor DJ. Not a club DJ... But a DJ who plays shows and festivals or at least a club DJ who knows how to play to a few thousand people at once while projecting a certain attitude and presence.
The costume could have taken care of the stage presence bit a little, but it looked terrible. The guy was hardly ever standing up straight and was hunched over a lot... Another killer of the intimidating presence he needed to project, and had zero confidence on the mic and could not act whatsoever.
Then we can go into the appearance of the area which certainly didn't help at all either.
You fix all these things and I assure you, The area would present itself well, regardless if you agree with it or like it.
Not to mention that techno is rather formulaic.
Lol. Depends on what you mean by Techno. Certainly the popular top 40 "EDM" genres are fairly formulaic, but the deeper into the rabbit hold you go to what most would consider "True" Standards of the respective "Techno" genres, the "formula" you speak of all but collapses and does not exist beyond a few nuances and rules that contribute to the total sound which establishes each respective work inside a genre.
