There will be NO free refill Howl-o-Scream cups this year.

And your source is...?

You may find here that not everyone can provide sources all the time. You can either trust my information or just wait and realize it is what it is. You don't have to trust me if you don't want to.

Woah, I'm like 90% sure (correct me if I'm wrong) he was simply trying to figure out if he skipped over the information while looking for it. Catty much?! Welcome to the forum WasabiDragon!

Moving on. Wendigo Woods is shaping up to be the best/scariest section of the park. I'm really excited to see the things I'm hearing put into motion tomorrow.

Personally, I think they need to decide which they want to do and focus on that.  The mishmash of haunt and party with no children's event is a problem.  If the want to do a party event, they need to market it that way, and stop talking about all of the "scares."  If they want to focus on houses, they need to kill the bars and dance parties.

Honestly, I don't care which they do, as long as they create a focused, well-marketed event.  And of course, it would be nice if they would figure out how they want to entertain the kids.  Watching Mommy and Daddy drink with pirates can't be all that entertaining for a 6 year old...
Isn't the point of Howl-0-Scream to be adults only; At least thats what it says on their website

Actually they have decided to go with a more adult event. The problem lies more with reputation, expectation, and execution. They are known as a family-friendly park, and families expect the event to not be catered solely towards adults. You can tell people all you want how the event is not catering towards children; however, because they have gone to previous events they have that expectation.

Execution can break the expectations these people have; however, the park refuses to focus on their scares and thus they don't provide a lot more intense scares. Once they get their scares together, people will re-set their expectations. They need to pull off at least one really perfect year to change the game.
For example, get rid of the flippen STROLLER PARKING at 13.

EDIT: Oh, wait. 13 isn't scary. Sorry!

I think one that would be worse is the fear of trying to maneuver a stroller up the stairs before Land of Dragons. I remember my uncle trying to accomplish that when his kids were little because he was too stubborn to go turn back and go the long way around.

Speaking of Wendigo Woods and the entire "Cursed" theme for this year. Has anyone else noticed that the song that plays on the website is slightly different from the song that is available to download?

Website: "...they are here..."
Downloaded Song: "...he is here..."

...Just something I noticed...

Not to go too far off topic, but has anyone heard anything about the souvenir cups? I still don't see anything online about it.

Same! I loved the hot cups last year.. hoping they bring those back as well. Doesn't even have to be free refills. .99 ones would cut it just fine. LOL

Demon Street is the most evident of the party areas, but there's more than that. Oktoberfest and Killarney are also focused on bars and parties. Ports of Skull is basically a photo op with (un)funny pirate s cracking puns. And of course the park has always sold alcohol at the event, but now it's like bars are a major attraction. They're in, like, half of the park's hamlets. And they're definitely not "scary" unless you take into account all the drunk people they create.

If that's not "party," I have absolutely no idea what it is.

OK so Oktoberfest and Killarney have always been the "safe zones" since I started attending HOS in 2011. Nothing new there.

Ports of Skull still has scares. The scares pretty much take up the entire pathway from Pompeii to the Battering Ram (at least thats how it worked last year). The photo op section is really no different from the steps outside the Globe where all of Ripper Row's actors pretty much hung out last year.

So that leaves all the specialty stands... Well I just looked at the Food and Wine Festival map I picked up last June and counted (and re-counted to make sure) 17 stands selling beer. Last year there were a total of four specialty stands selling mixed drinks during HOS.

So why are drunk people so much more problematic during HOS? Its because the park sells the alcohol in the lines for all the mazes, the specialty stands, the restaurants, and in little carts scattered everywhere. If they simply just removed all the beer stalls in the mazes and the alcohol carts, it wouldn't be as big of an issue. I dunno if they've always had beer stalls set up like that in all the queue lines but they were certainly there in 2011. Just keep the alcohol at the specialty stands and the restaurants.

I must have really good luck. I almost never see really drunk people at the park, even during Howl-O-Scream. Only maybe once or twice have I seen people who are seriously wasted, but buzzed and tipsy people are pretty common, so I guess that's enough of an "inhibition prohibition" to get an actor punched in the face, and that's an issue.

I've never seen people drunk or even tipsy in the park. If I buy a drink tomorrow (probably while at Blood Banquet), I'll just get one because the price is crazy. I don't drive three hours to bgw to get wasted and make an ass of myself. I can do that at home for a lot less money! ^_^

Intoxicated people are not always the ones attacking the team members. There are many people who hadn't taken a sip that have attacked them. As far as team members getting hurt, that is a mix of people who overreact to scares and don't mean to hurt them, people just trying to look cool and tough, and people who just enjoy it.

As far as the issue with intoxicated people, honestly it's the law to not be publicly drunk, as well as they can be very obnoxious, annoying, and irritating in general. Plus they are also more suspect to cause trouble in general because of lowered inhibitions, not just hurting team members.

They are two issues that aren't always directly related.

I do agree that I don't see them myself often. I can say I've heard of many stories from various team members all throughout the park. Alcohol is an issue. Quite honestly though, I think there is actually less places to buy alcohol than other times during the year.

I think it is mainly because there are four main bars that are advertised as attractions. I think they really make the difference. I'm sure the alcohol being sold in the lines are an issue, but I don't think they are the main issue.

I can understand them not being able to extend their liquor license to setup other bars during Howl-o-Scream at this point because of the constant issues already. If they could lower the amount of issues, I'm sure they could then increase the bars. Unless there is some other reason why they aren't allowed to have any more alcohol serving locations.

As for the "party" thing people keep talking about. I really feel like people over exaggerate about it taking over the park. A bar serving alcohol is not a party. If so, then I guess the Food & Wine Festival was one big party. Right now, the park only has one real area that tries to mimic a party and that is Demon Street with the DJ.

Ireland and Oktoberfest aren't that much of a party place. People aren't dancing all throughout those villages. Nor are they blocking up the pathways to listen to the music. They are more relaxed atmospheres compared to the other villages.

As others have said, I enjoy Howl-o-Scream where it is at right now. I love how you can go through houses and terror-tories to get your scares, but then you can stop and take a break in the more relaxed Ireland, Oktoberfest and Demon Street if the demons don't get you.

I find the event to be well rounded as offering a variety of offerings for many people. The one thing it is missing is daytime activities for children. I would be all for a daytime event for kids as long as it ended before 5:30pm.

I think it would nice if they had sometime of themed show in the Elmo area and/or Land of Dragons. They advertise that after 6pm the events are not meant for young children then why not create more activities for this audience during the day. I don't have children yet but I know that one day I will and this issue will be a more a prevalent one for me and will likely determine if I attend the event at all.

I've been going to HoS since about 2000/01-ish and Oktoberfest has been and off and on party spot. There have been scarezones in Oktoberfest (NOT Rinefield.), but honestly I've never seen an actual scare actor in the area. (Stitchin Time being the only time I've seen actors in Oktoberfest, but that was really just the bridge connecting Oktoberfest to Rinefield. So I don't really count that.)

In the past Oktoberfest had things like a street party in front of the Festhaus, where you could dance with the characters from Fiends in Das Festhaus. And just some general other party atmosphere of playing music and dancing. It has never been club-ish or like Demon Street, with a 'DJ'. (As far as I can remember.)

I think Killarney earns the name of a party spot by some people on here, because of the nurses selling jello-shots and the fact that they play classic rock.

And to be fair to the Ripper Row crew, working in an area where the vast majority of the crowd is leaving the park, is difficult. So I don't really blame them for being more towards the sides. You've got a massive herd moving in one direction, it's hard enough just to cut your way across the crowd if you wanna visit one of the shops on the way out. Banbury is a difficult location to do scares because of the crowds.

While I do have an issue with the bars for HoS, F&W is different because wine is part of that experience. It's in the name of the event. Having beers and other alcohol from the various countries is also part of that experience, because you're supposed to be tasting things from different countries. Meanwhile, HoS just has just about the same name brand alcohol everywhere, from what I can tell. There's nothing really special about it. It's the same stuff they serve during the regular season, with no event.

Overall I think I'd be okay with the bars, if they stopped selling alcohol in the lines of the mazes, and randomly on the streets. They seem to be pushing the alcohol more at HoS than they do at F&W, and it's a lot more in your face. And not gonna lie, with the amount of places you can buy alcohol at HoS just gives me the vibe that they want you to be drunk in order to enjoy the event. But that might be just me. Drinking isn't the issue I have with it, it's the excessive-ness of it all.

I believe they have a small show in FoF for Halloween, but I could be mistaken. However, LotD used to do HoS shows. Things like Spooky Kooky Dragon & Friends (think that was the name.), and Witchy Poo & Pumpkin Too. Why they still don't do those sorts of shows, could be any number of reasons. but they stopped doing the shows for kids around 2006ish, I believe.
