I wouldn't be surprised if that framing on the windows is for gothic faux stained glass windows. They're way too cheery as of now. Would be a simple yet effective overlay.

Or they're just going to throw up the shredded two-by-fours like how it was during the vampire/werewolf overlay. Kinda hoping for something new though.

OK. So. I want to voice one small concern. As I have said several times, pirates are cool. But I really mean that British pirates, like Virginia Beach's own Blackbeard are cool. Some pirates are more equal than others. For example, Somali pirates: not cool. Elizabethan privateers: cool.

Where I am going is this: I am not convinced that Italian pirates really fit our stereotyped image of swashbuckling sea dogs.

I'm sure that people will enjoy it regardless, and as long as the theming completely covers the current nationality of the area, I guess it really doesn't matter. But I think a small part of me is going to be a teeny bit annoyed by the idea of people saying "Arrr!" in Italy.

On a more-typically "Nic" note: International Talk Like a Pirate Day is just around the corner. 19 September

Vincenzo Gambi (died 1819) was a 19th-century Italian pirate. He was one of the most violent and bloodthirsty men in the Gulf of Mexico during the early 19th century and raided shipping in the gulf for well over a decade before his death. Gambi was one of several pirates associated with Jean Lafitte and later assisted him during the Battle of New Orleans along with Dominique You, Rene Beluche and another fellow Italian-born pirate Louis "Cut Nose" Chigizola.[1] He is briefly mentioned in the 2007 historical novel Strangely Wonderful: Tale of Count Balashazy by Karen Mercury.

I saw much more interesting information. But the few Italian pirates I read about seemed interesting and seemed like "swashbuckling sea dogs" :p

To clarify: I know there have been seafaring criminals throughout history and around the globe. That is not the same thing as the popularly-held image of a a guy with an eye-patch and a bird on his shoulder talking like this.

To further clarify, y'all must know me well enough by now to know, that I am not to say that this quibble is going to ruin HOS for me or whatever. I just know that I am going to think about it at least once, as I stroll through Italy.

This idea reminds me of Johnny Depp's first role as a "pirate." He was essentially a gypsy on a river boat in the movie Chocolat, but I am pretty sure the gypsies are referred to as "pirates" at least once by the townspeople.

Sorry. Random.

First off why do Terror-tories have to match the current hamlet theme? Remember Terror-tories are all about the theme changing completely. France is not France, it is Hell. Rhinefeld is not Rhinefeld, it is Transylvania which is in Romania a completely different country from Germany. Italy is not Italy, it is a pirate's port.

Terror-tories do not have to follow the current park's theme, at least they are sticking to traditional Halloween icons and not just going out blood and gut and gore, and just some random stuff everywhere.

They don't, if as I said, the park successfully re-themes the entire hamlet. But given how inherent the nationality is in some areas -- right down to the architecture -- props and dressing and music aren't enough by themselves. I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm saying that if it isn't done thoroughly, there will be some cognitive dissonance, when you, for example, enter Italy and find a bunch of Brits swaggering around.

I would also say that it doesn't help matters that the park on its website lists those terror-tories as being in existing countries. I know this is probably a way-finding/communication thing, but it still takes away from the idea that Italy is really Ports of Skull.

Replace "in" with "replaces" and this information would have worked better, I think:

Starting with the introduction of four massively themed Terror-tories™, England, France, Germany and Italy will be transformed into an over-the-top thematic experience that transports guests to another time and place full of startles and frights.

• Ripper Row® in England
• Vampire Point™ in Germany
• Demon Street™ in France
• Ports of Skull™ in Italy

Howl-O-Scream also offers a killer selection of food and drinks thanks to five, all-new, highly themed dining experiences and spirit bars.

• Blood Banquet™ in Germany
• Buccaneer Galley in Festa Italia
• Fright Feast™ in Ireland
• Demon Drinks in France
• Pirate Baarrrgh™ in Italy
