RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

I can see all the overprotective parents now cawing at "Hell" being written on the park map. Can you say "Fiends?" ;)

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

I must say they definitely are doing something quite risky and innovate as far as theme parks go. It sounds like it can really work out fantastic, I just hope it does work out.

What was the old pirate-themed house like? I wasn't going to HOS when that one was up. I don't really see how pirates can be too scary but I guess it depends on how they play it. How did the old one do?

It was there for a while. It wasn't a house. It was just skeleton vignette scenes in Banbury. All funny ones. Sea Dog Cemetery was in the petting zoo area. I liked that house a lot.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Complete thematic overlay with no path scares...

Complete thematic overlay part seems cool... Infact as far as I'm concerned that's all a scarezone is... But with Actors at night...

If there are really no path scares this year I'm gonna face palm so hard... Especially if the re-themes are amazing... It's like they'd be half-assing EXACTLY what they should've been doing all along.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

I don't know, Scott seems to love angering a lot of people :p

But in all seriousness, I can see them using an alternative name besides Hell.

EDIT: Zach, you want to update the main page with the hamlet re-themes/France theme? I mean that is the "rumor" going around.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

I'm just realizing that "Hell" will be right next to where Glory in the Gardens is during the regular season.

Talk about a change in scenery. :p

I can't imagine Oktoberfest would be anything other than vampires as the overlay (I don't think Oktoberfest will have any real changes at all-clearly just a guess on my part). With Bitten/Open Casket/Night Beats all being vampire related.

So, it's not just England/France? My best guess is another new overlay with Festa.

I will be soon. Just got back from the park. Speaking of which, here's a few shots of the work happening on Fear Fair's replacement.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

That area seems to be getting more and more trees every day. This is probably to make up for the lack of trees compared to its previous setting in the old petting zoo. I also spy some ravens from England. I wonder if they plan on using any of those building structures.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

I should mention that the old props from Scavengers have been moved over to Root of All Evil's site. Don't have any pictures (getting pictures of Root is insanely hard) but they're over there.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Whoa! If you look in the background right-hand side of Zach's third picture, you can sort of make out what appears to be the old leprechaun wagon from the long-gone Killarney Sound Machine, all dressed up for pirates as a prop. Cool!

That wagon has been there since Cursed at the very least. But it appears that they are using Englands crows, which is neat. BTW if anyone was interested in knowing about the spotlights used for the fireworks, that light in the bubble in the third picture is the spotlight used. Just a little known fact each spot light is located in these locations: Roof of the Globe Theater, Roof of Castle O'Sullivan, Roof of the Royal Palace Theater, Roof of Das Festhaus, and of course the Festa HOS Fairground :p

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

I knew it had been in other houses before, but not as much as it apparently has been (nor did I realize it was always in the same location!) Very interesting recycling of props for different attractions. Thank you for clearing things up.

While we're on the topic of pirates, do we know if this maze is actually supposed to be like the old pirate maze in England, or is this a new maze entirely, simply bearing the same theme as the old one. I still am really anxious to see how this maze plays out.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

It'll be a "new" house entirely. I put new in quotation marks because, in all honesty, basically everything is being recycled from somewhere. As I've said previously, don't get your hopes up for this thing- this is not the story for this year's event. The only reason it's happening is because Fear Fair was ruled completely unusable at the last minute.

Other than hell, what can you retheme a hamlet to? Maybe vintage Halloween in England, but then what? Transylvania?

I can think of a few things...

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

I'm not necessarily getting my hopes up about how good it is itself. However, I am very anxious to see how they can get their act together and see how well they can pull off throwing a new experience together. I want a new house, and to see what the park can do with it, considering their constraints. What's making me excited, basically, is wondering how it will end up in this odd scenario. I'm all up for the "underdog" attractions (after all, there's always the chance we could be surprised, and their creativity will come together on this maze, surprising us all at how great the atmosphere and maze itself are...) Remember, I was the guy who was more hyped up about the Planet Snoopy expansion than probably any other person on the face of the Earth who cares about amusement parks.

Anyway, is this pirate maze truly meant to solely be a "filler" attraction in order to make up for/take the place of Fear Fair's last-minute absence from the lineup? Or, the more likely thing, did they see this as an opportunity to add a new maze to the lineup, since they had to anyway, and once they get more time and options later on, this maze will return for the next few Howl-O-Screams, slightly different/improved? In other words, can we expect to see this maze again next year, even if it flops? (Personally, I'm guessing yes...)

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

I always thought/dreamed up the idea that the Festhaus are could be purgatory. Where all the monsters and non-human beings go into the afterlife... The festhaus area could be a lighter take on the idea, "the lively undead" type deal, and back around where the games are could be where all the evil monsters lurk, and the small bridge into oktoberfest would be dressed up as the "gates" to purgatory. With lots of fog and thunder sounds/lightning effects. Maybe even some fire.

The Italy bridge would also be dressed as the gates to purgatory, but would be more like a "ghost" crossing. Actors dressed up as ghost from all different time periods wandering along the bridge... Maybe some Pepper's ghost effects in the wooded areas, With some solemn haunting music playing over the bridge, like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tpi0igYJ2To

Some friendly, some mean "ghost" actors wandering around the bridge, but not to scare, for atmospheric effect... With a more intense scarezone across the bridge. This area would be like the "Throwback" zone. A homage to all things of HOS past and the parks old country theme and could be made up of props of retired mazes, zones,Costumes and scare, also to maintain the "olde country " theme for the park... While the rest of the park goes in a more modern direction with it's scarezones and themes and such.

First off, this ^ idea is amazing. Seriously, I want this to happen. Secondly...

Yes.

Even if they pull of a miracle and it does well I wouldn't bet on it returning. It's not being built to last- it's being built to open before Howl-O-Scream starts and then be forgotten.

Unless they see that it is a HUGE success and they decide to pour money into fixing it p to last. Then they completely mess up the maze and haveit removed the year after fixing it. :p
