I suggest they try to same things for at least three years each and see how they can deal with things.

While I see where you're coming from, the park simply doesn't have that much time to get it right. :-/

Look back at those three years I listed above. Each year they evolved and molded the path scares for that year throughout the event. The Scare is Everywhere started out awful but climbed the ladder up to mediocre by the end of the season. A similar story can be seen with the other two as well- especially the Hordes. I think the park did, legitimately give a good solid try to each of those concepts.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Time is of the essence, do you not expect the park to continue for the next 4 years? They have done zones for many years so they know how to handle those, the hordes could work just give them two more years, and the scare is everywhere could work just give it two years.

Kinks can't always be worked out in one year, let alone the few days the event is actually going on.

But I guess if you are looking at saving as much time as possible, then I guess 1 year is good enough.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Perhaps we may can summarize by borrowing a comment from Commander Spock when he councils Captain Kirk during a starship battle with Kahn...

"His pattern indicates two-dimensional thinking."

Then we see what Kirk goes on to do to gain an advantage in the battle.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Just my humble opinion...

Path scares never worked at BGW, not because the paths aren't wide enough, Not because the hills etc...

It's because they've never been themed them properly... There was never enough props and they never played with the lighting enough. Also the fact that half the fog machines never work.

Also, some of the areas that Just BEG to be a some uber themed scarezone (see the area between Festhaus and Darkastle) have been ignored, for whatever reason.

BGW Doesnt have the luxury of closing for two hours to prepare HOS... So most of the props get seen during the day and guest become familiar with them... So they lose the sense of unfamiliarity. The way I would address this is a lot of lighting tweaks at night and lots of electronic and air powered props and sets in the pathways, But it seems they just don't care enough about scarezones to invest heavily in them.

I feel 2011 was a step in the right direction. I loved it. Still, close but no cigar. Most of the props in the zones could be amounted to wooden crates. Gotta think outside of the box. There needs to be set pieces in the pathways, along with the actors. Different lighting windows and fog, along with a couple of special effects for each scarezone... That's how Busch could succeed. They really just need to invest more in the scarezones.

Yo ho, a pirates life for me :p

Nah, I'm not about that life but I think the skeletons are ;)

Turns out all the props and decor from France is going into the new maze in Festa. The pirate skeletons are making a comeback! They along with the rats are backstage in Italy.

So this leaves France with?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Fire?

Fire projection would actually be real easy in that area. The projectors could sit on top of the Palace Theater and hit 90% of the buildings. And something could be rigged on the Wild Reserve side to hit that building. Add some charred set dressing, a few pieces like it was one of the many times Paris has burned and you have an entire country themed.

The most expensive part would be the flame projectors, which could range anywhere from $200 to $1,000 a piece. But of course they could also rent them for quite a bit less for the season.

Anyone got pictures of the work in the old clown area yet? We saw bucket trucks and crows going on roof tops. I'm not sure ours will turn out. Perhaps, CK can get some good pics on his train ride versus my caveman technology. :D

Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Something to note, Scott and Phil were both seen with a group of people today heading towards the "Pirate" house. This was a peculiar group of people. You may typically see park executives in casual business clothing, and other visiting executives in the same clothing. However this group was in just casual clothing. Cargo shorts, graphic tees, and the such. They looked almost like plain guests right off the street and even more so they had no nametags like employees typically would wear whether in or out of a designated costume. They also had camera phones out taking pictures, and might I add these phones were not iPhones or Blackberries or Androids. These phones were ancient flip phones and slide open/shut phones. This group lacked every and any bit of officalness. Almost to the point it was as if they brought in their own families and was showing them around.

I am only noting this as it is very unusual to see executives walking around with a group of people who appear this way. Just saying.

Should the park really be doing "pirate Skeletons" after the Copyright issues with KK?

Mickey Mouse and Captain Jack Sparrow would like a word with you, Mr. Gasparich....

Technically anyone is allowed to have skeleton pirates, in fact skeletons and pirate go hand in hand in almost most any pirate themed attraction or show. Pirates 4D had pirate skeletons. Yes Pirates of the Caribbean had pirate skeletons.

The key is to not use the pirate skeletons in a fashion that Pirates of the Caribbean used them. For example, they can't copy actual pirate characters or at least appear to be very similar if not exact copies. Plus this wouldn't be the first time the park used these specific skeletons for pirates.

Some of you may remember Piratical Purgatory? It was a scare zone based in England. The area had no real scare actors, but the props made it a scare zone, a very weak one at that. The props consisted of those skeleton displays (most recently displayed in France) but with pirate clothing and golden coins and the such. When they moved them to France they were stripped of their pirate clothing and decor and rats took over along with peasant clothing.

The only bad thing about fire is that it doesn't go along with the theme of catacombs. At least the skeletons somewhat go along with catacombs. Unless they retheme catacoms. :dodgy:

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

And that reminds me Hoopla, the Catacombs faux rock sign is being prepared right behind the Royal Palace Theater.

But about the village theme not matching the house, I don't care that much because I honestly don't think they need to match up. Sure it is nice and really neat but in the end it isn't priority.

My bet is they were scare actors being shown what there job is going to be.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Entertainment members always wear plain street clothes until they go into costume. So this group of people was most likely the scare actors hired to work this maze. Rehearsals and walk through often start around this time for Howl O Scream. On another note, construction of Root of all Evil has begun. They have started work on the Green House structures.

To see what the park wants to do for this year's Howl-O-Scream, you have to look back to Christmas Town 2012. Think about what really changed last year. That's a trend you should be watching for.

A Coke-themed house? (jk)

Chris C, I mentioned Roots construction already. And also to note, this was a small group of like five people who were in a golf cart personally escorted by Scott.

I highly doubt Scott would waste his time escorting scare actors around especially in a golf cart.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Has anyone been and looked back at the pirate area? If they have and its changed could you possibly post some pictures of it? I'm crippled for the next few days, then going out of town and can't make it there till the 13th. Thanks
