RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

What was the old pirate-themed house like? I wasn't going to HOS when that one was up. I don't really see how pirates can be too scary but I guess it depends on how they play it. How did the old one do?

That's a good point. I'm sure plenty of "undead" pirates will make an appearance. Maybe a theme to a lost ship at sea? I dunno.

Anyway, if this pirate-themed maze has a good story and feel and all, I have a feeling it could actually be really good. Yes, I realize it's very last-minute, but some grim ghostly-pirate maze could really pull off a great effect, if they can at least put some thought into it. In short, I'm still looking forward to see how this maze will play out.

I have an idea for a 13 maze. This would be difficult, but what if they made two elevators, but instead of having them going into the same maze, the elevators could lead to two separate mazes with the same theme. I know the old EitA building is too small, but it would be interesting.

A couple of years ago, BGT try this with a haunted house called Darkheart's Fear Fair. They had a fork in the path, which allowed you to have four different paths to choose from. While it did sound like a really good concept, it was supposedly a disaster for capacity.

So wait, on the path scares, I've read two different things. Are there going to be path scares or not? I have a very very hard time seeing Howl O Scream without path scares!

From what I've heard, from most of my sources, the park doesn't exactly know what they are going to do yet. However, they will most likely resort to going back to scarezones. Whether or not they will be on the park map, I don't know.
Edit:For what it's worth, take this with a grain of salt, but I hear they have hired/will hire way more scare actors this year. They also started much earlier with auditions this year. That being said, hopefully they will be able to train them properly. In my opinion, for the past three years, or so, the actors have been one of the weakest points about the event.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

The park had/has grandiose plans, but I certainly wouldn't bet money on most/all of them actually coming to fruition. We shall see. That said, judging just by the lineup alone, the park has bet everything on what they can do on the paths which, considering the park's trackrecord in that department, may be a massive, massive mistake. Again, we shall see.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

While this years event may be hanging on a thread I think there could be hope for it. If Root is redone as we have herd it could have potential. Hopefully we get a new maze that is scarier than Fear Fair. While I love the scary clowns, it fails compared to the old ones Busch had. So hopefully some sort of Sea Dog reboot could be amazing and refreshing. I would hope 13 is done better. With all the time they have with EITA closed there should not be a blank wall! Hopefully they have taken some time to better prepare that area. I just hope that the path scares are what make the event. With great path scares this Howl O Scream has much potential.

Any specific rumors you could give us? Howl O Scream is my favorite event of the year for both rumors and visiting the park

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

So time for some HOS insider info from your pal PR!

First off, Root of All Evil constructions has begun in the DarKastle/Festhaus Parking Lot. It appears that *some* of the wooden frames were saved from storage while other parts are being built brand new. I assume they saved the frames from Holiday Hills billboards and are re-using those to save on money.

Next we have our friend the troll. He is in location to be prepped and added next to the bridge by Pompeii. He is currently backstage chilling for now. I expect to see him out there almost as soon as Illuminights is over.

Finally the biggest most interesting bit of news I have heard as of lately is France. France is supposedly being "set on fire" for HOS. I have no idea how this is going to work, no idea what exactly this means but from what I can gather, France may have lots of interesting fire effects or decor? Not exactly sure what for and how things fit together.

Just like with all other rumors and whispers going around, take the last bit of info with a grain of salt as nothing is truly set in stone and can still change completely.

Now I think this year's Howl-o-Scream is going to make or break the season. It is officially the busiest time of the year, much busier than Illuminights. It is very crucial they pull off an amazing HOS and CT. These events should attract the majority of this years attendance.

I know the Entertainment Department can pull together amazing HOS and CT events, more so HOS. Remember Scott's specialty is special events. I think they have major plans, and I think path scares is something Scott hinted at. This year the park will be transformed like no other year prior. This is the key to HOS this year and if they can pull this off, I think we can expect and A+ event.

Party Rocker, thanks for the info! As far as France being "set on fire," I was reminded of something Busch Gardens Tampa did a while back on some of its buildings. They basically just projected monster flames onto the walls. Here is a picture I dug up online from Theme Park Review (of all places...).

Aside from that, I do actually feel like they can pull off something great. It's not so much a matter as to whether they'll put enough, they do, it's just a question as to whether or not they'll think everything out enough and make the atmosphere and intensity great. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but the information thrown at us from the park about HOS right now is pretty scary...maybe they're practicing!

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Is it possible that any of this information is being "leaked" purposefully; testing the waters for certain people's reactions to it. You know, like say BGW Fans? And then make adjustments. Does the Park Fans Network carry that kind of clout?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

If they are testing the waters, I'll be the first to say, flames projected on buildings are not going to cut it.

Well, we already know they're going to set their wallets on fire :D ,but if this is done properly I think that will look amazing!

You know what, Chickenking? That actually looks so cool, I could accept that...at Kings Dominion.

On a different note, it's been stated that the park will be focusing on the atmosphere/décor of the entire park overall this year numerous times. That said, can we expect all of Festa Italia to have some sort of pirate theme to tie in with the supposedly pirate-themed Fear Fair replacement house in Festa field? If done well, that could actually make the area better than it is on its own...
