Either they are SERIOUSLY cutting back on new stuff (as well as the site in general), or they just threw this up there for the time being.

13, Catacombs, Bitten, Root, and Dead Line are the houses listed.

No Fear Fair? Hmm... :-/

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

Nothing new? Oh please let this just be a teaser site they threw up there.

Posted 35 minutes ago. :) Nothing new, just thought I'd share.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

Firstly, it surprises me that they made the site go live so soon. It isn't even July, and the past couple years it has been updated right around August timeframe. Second, I know last year (or the year before, I think) they listed the returning houses then updated with the new houses a few weeks later. But, with so much returning, I can't see us getting that much new stuff. If anything, by the looks of it, I would think we may be getting a new house.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

You guys come one now! Don't drop the ball. We all know the park isn't just going to throw out the entire event in June. When has the park in recent years every just given us the entire event in our hands in June? Never. In fact, last year they went to great lengths to try and keep the information a secret all the way until a weekend before the event.

Like Zach said, take it with all the salt in your kitchen. They probably just wanted to get something up and running and still have old info on there.

Seriously. I was just talking to a few people tonight. Everyone says to ignore the website.

I'm glad to see that their marketing department is (finally) taking the initiative early. It's good to get fans hyped, but if there's more to come they should say so. Many people, who live a long way from the park plan early on. When they see this the say:"Oh, it's the same as last year. I'd rather not waste my money on this year." That's precisely how the marketing department is hurting the park.

Well I think they should just have a simple yet effective graphic element that advertises a great a event with absolutely no information about the attractions, shows, or anything. This is effective in getting people hype while not advertising old stuff they may or may not be there, and doesn't release any new info too early.

I enjoyed the way they did it 2 years ago, when there was a different House/Show/Scarezone released every week (on Tuesday, I think) right up to the last week before open.

Hopefully that's how this will be...we'll all have to keep checking the site to find new changes.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

I highly doubt that what's on the site is all we're getting. There would literally be nothing new, and there would be less. I think at this point we're just seeing a confirmation of what is returning. The new stuff will be added later on.

However; roaming hordes are gone, and scare zones aren't back (at least at this point) so what will be the strategy for general park scares this year?

Just so you know:

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

But why remove Fear Fair and Roaming Hordes from the site, and leave everything else?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

The website is managed completely from Orlando- they were likely sent old plans and, as stated here, removing Fear Fair was the original plan. As for hordes, I have no clue what the plan is for 2013. I'd assume they won't be returning though.

^ This. I remember one year, the site said "details coming in June". They never release info that early. I think someone in Orlando misheard them and thought they said coming in June instead of coming soon. LOL

I would think plans were made out in January, which is what is posted on the site now, but due to budget issues plans were changed and rearranged and they have yet to be sent to Orlando. I can see them saving money by doing everything out of Orlando, but would it really hurt to have two people work on daily updates here in VA? It would make communication between the park and corporate that much easier since they wouldn't need it.

As far as in-park scares go, I think they will be going back to scare zones but still keep a horde or two.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

I do hope they keep the hordes this year. I thought the way they interacted with the GP was a positive thing. It made scares come from all over and they kept many folks on their toes for the evening. In the past the scare zones were in places that were in fixed locations. When you see a scare zone coming up you are expecting a scare or two. Plus the scare zones seem to slow down folks walking towards them making a block on the paths.

To me the hordes were hit and miss, but most evenings last fall we ran into them several times each night. It was obvious that they did catch many off guard. We liked being near Bitten at night fall to see the hordes leave the staging area and make their march to the park, it was quite impressive..

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

I don't know if this has been posted yet but apparently current park employees are being allowed to work HOS again this year. So expect the quality of scares to sky rocket compared to last year.
