I'm not as big a follower of the park as many of you guys are. I live 3 hours away in Raleigh, NC. I've been going to Busch Gardens once a year for HOS since 2007, minus 2009 and 2010. I wasn't able to make it those 2 years. I got my first annual pass this year because I wanted to experience more of the park's events. I did have fun but it just doesn't seem the same as did my previous trips. It's like the quality of the park has gone down a notch each time I visit.

The first time I went to HOS, I was amazed at it; the atmosphere, scares and houses. I have never been to Halloween event like that before. Ever since last year, it has gotten less exciting for me. Yes I did have fun but not the same level of fun I had when I first went in 2007. I truly don't know what to expect this year. I do hope that HOS turns out to be good but I have my doubts on what I've seen and heard. I'm looking forward to this weekend to see what happens.

I believe that you can choose to have a good time or not, regardless of whether they are using old props and glitter or the best new theming on the East coast. At least 50% (if not more) of your experience is what you bring to the park, not what the park provides you.

All of the nit picking and hand wringing just puts you in a mental place to have a bad experience. At the end of the day it is all theater. I personally will suspend my disbelief and enjoy HOS.

I've been on this site for going on four years. This is my favorite post of all time.

Good on you. Don't ever lose that mentality.

I know that this is a little random but does anyone have proof that they will have clowns in 13? I was too scared of Fear Fair until the last day of HOS last year and now it's gone. I still want clowns!

I was talking to a co-worker that has a friend that is working HOS, said 99% chance there are clowns in 13

Some random notes:

Took a quick stroll around the park last Saturday to see what the park has in store. So far, it seems there's still a LOT of work to be done before the event can kick off.

Oktoberfest still needs lots of work done. I guess it shouldn't take long for the park to put the hay bales out. Some of the seats in Open Casket already have holes in them. The gift shop was closed (probably undergoing HOS renovations, but I don't remember it being closed last year for Appreciation weekend).

Germany is looking better and better. Still seems to be missing something, but the props and stuff are already out. The Vampire Point facade on the clock tower looks great. Just a shame the park keeps tearing the clock apart to put these props together.

New France looks fine as an area, but I miss the cobweb covered bridge. I REALLY hope that makes a return this year. Knowing they didn't set it up this close to the event makes me kinda sad. I'm still holding out for this weekend. I'm also hoping they bring chainsaw maniacs and werewolves back to this area, although knowing they moved the scare zone into Rhinefeld, that may or may not happen.

France looks awful. Bring the crates and rats back. The theme is supposed to be burning streets of Paris, not Bud & BBQ.

I don't really expect HOS to be completely perfect this weekend, but I'm hoping in a few weeks they amp up the decorations and keep the scares good.

In any case from what I have heard, pirates from the pirate bar will occasionally perform a series of skits in their terror-tory. This seems to be what Howl-o-Scream is reduced to, a series of skits in each terror-tory. The only scares I see returning is the bungee scare in Da Vincis Gardens of Inventions, and maybe a few scares on Demon Street, other than that all scares are probably in the houses.

Sigh. I hope you are wrong.

General note for BGW: There is more to entertaining adults than alcohol and burlesque theater. I am hoping that y'all know this and we just aren't seeing the whole picture. But just in case, the word of the day is "sophistication."

Clowns in Thirteen: Confirmed via tons of sources.

Also, someone told me to let you all know that the "trash bags" in Aquitaine are actually visqueen. Unfortunately, they still look like trash bags. :p
Oh man, they're going all out :p
