Those people scaring you are enhancing the phobia. Take a stuffed clown and put it next to someone afraid of clowns; they flip out. Take a person in a clown costume and put them next to someone afraid of clowns; they have a panic attack then flip out. The people enhance the phobia.

Thats why we have Fear Fear.

The 13 featured in the house are some of the most common phobias you will come across, so more people will find the Heights room, or even the insect room, ten times scarier than a skeleton.

Empty hallways and a waiting area with dark lighting aren't very scary though. I went through the maze on Sunday night and the people in front of and behind me were joking on the lack of theming in parts of the maze, and the crappy scares/phobias in other areas.

Fear of heights is definitely one of the best rooms in the entire park, especially if you don't expect it (even rivaling the dead subway car).

To the average visitor, the one that scares them the most is the winner in their eyes.
People go through the mazes to get scared, so naturally that's how it works. Props and theming should add to that effect. One of the biggest problems ROAE had on its opening night was that it had a lack of props. 13 lacks props in some rooms, but is themed to the gills in other rooms. It feels kinda inconsistent IMO.

I really wanted to like 13. It seems like such a great idea. But you are right about some rooms looking very nice and others are crap (what is the empty waiting room supposed to be anyway?). Love the fear of heights room, but that is essentially it. Even went as far to have some fun and suggest my own:

I really don't want to wait a long time to see the bridge so I will generally pass on this one. I would love to see the roaming clown horde bust in here running around and bring out the fear of clowns (Coulrophobia). That would be fun to watch!

So I take it Coulrophobia is not one of the most common phobias even though people are terrified of clowns?

The fear of heights room is essential and does its job well. The fact people get scared to cross and back up the line means the park did a perfect job with that. How they could fix the backing up could be letting less people in at a time. Imagine if one group went through at a time? It wouldn't be crazy backed up, just have a line that is longer on the outside.

probably wouldn't work with this particular setup, but they could do parallel rooms where scares tend to back people up...

Well, there are enough security guards in there to direct the people who hesitate to take a different path. I don't mean to have it so you can just walk around it, but have an actor scare you into an alternative room. I don't know if that would work, I would need to see a layout plan to be sure, but if it did work we might have a real winner with this house. By the way earlier you all were saying how the G.P. love it so much. I think that's because to them, they don't know what the building interior looks like during the regular season. They see the stuff that was there to begin with, and think the park went all out to make you feel like you were in a castle/cave. If you think of it, the rooms that don't hide the queue theming actually fit. For example the fear of torture room makes sense in a castle, because it looks very medieval, because that kind of stuff wouldn't happen today. Speaking of that room, does anyone know how they create that bad odor? It really fits with the intestines hanging from the ceiling, the blood and whatnot.

ROAE does it yet that maze still experiences backups. That being said, I really like the alternate path concept and it should be implemented in other mazes. Not sure if you can do it in 13, but maybe a maze like Fear Fair could.

Howl-O-Scream was very fun this evening. The mazes that I went through seemed much improved compared to last weekend. Particularly, Dead Line & Fear Fair. Both were properly staffed. Fear Fair...clowns running around everywhere. Even looked like some of the roaming horde clowns were in there around 6:15 or so. Dead Line...watch out above you; and the bathroom is even more nasty.

The bridge Troll has a buddy now.

Agreed, tonight was fun. The hordes were good, all the haunted houses were good. And imo 13 was the best maze tonight

I noticed a lot of improvements and additions from our last trip in September. It was a lot more fun with the combination of scare zones and roaming scare actors. I got some great laughs at the scare zone actors jumping out at the roaming actors. The fog was so thick it was often difficult to separate guests from actors.

Does BG normally hit capacity on a Sunday? I was thinking of going down this Sunday, but I wouldn't be able to get there until like 3:30ish. Do you think that would be OK?[/i]
