I like to keep my ratings short and simple.
Theming
A well themed maze works wonders in creating mood and atmosphere. Even if it doesn't have the best theme to work with, the maze should have a good theme execution.
Scares
The maze can be the best themed maze ever, but if the scares don't match the atmosphere, I usually drop the ranking. Deadline opening year was kinda weak despite the awesome theming/concept, but it greatly improved last year with better actors and more props/theming to work with.
Example:
Bitten: A pretty solid maze with some really nice theming and the scares to match. Everyone loves to trash it because its been around for so long, but every time I do this maze I almost never come out without getting jumped a few times. The actors are always on their A-game regardless of whether or not its opening HOS weekend when the other mazes are trying to find their bearings, on a peak day, or end of season after a long tiring month. The theming is pretty well done, although not the best the park has to offer. This maze would definitely benefit from a refresh every once in a while but I think it should stay.
