I think this is a positive change. Georgia Surfer was a little generic, and now it’s going to be closer in theme to the mine train. All for thematic cohesion! It looks like something Knotts, Dollywood, or SDC would build/theme a ride to.

Maybe we’ll see the kiddie rides in the area start to change themes over the next few years, too?

They’re trying for thematic cohesion, something the old SF clearly didn’t care about. This screams Cedar Fair to me.

Also the fact that they’re spending money on retheming an attraction that hasn’t even opened demonstrates a CLEAR emphasis on atmosphere and guest experience. I think it’s weird to complain about this and call it a stunt when it’s one of the clearest indicators we’ve had thus far that new Six Flags truly cares about how their parks look. I’m thrilled with this decision. They’re already gutting the old six flags bullshit.

Point received about theme cohesion, I'll concede that aspect. I just fear it'll end up in an uncanny theme valley where you can tell the prior (see: the ride vehicle still shaped like a surfboard, the boardwalk-y vibe of the buildings) is still present- to the point it may have been better just to commit to the surf theme. But I will eat my words and re-evaluate my assessment once it's finished. The less-jarring color scheme is an improvement though.

Cedar Fair did the same type of thing with Snake River Expedition (RIP), South Bay Shores, and Orion (to a lesser extent than the other two). They used the time that those attractions were delayed due to COVID to revise the storyline and add more theming. So this project doesn't really surprise me.

Cedar Fair was making massive efforts throughout the 2010s to improve the look and feel of their properties. It’s gonna be so awesome to look back and see how far they’ve come under new management.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge lefty and hate corporations and monopolistic mergers, but when the merger is essentially Cedar Fair bringing their style to these important and historic Six Flags parks, I can’t help but be pumped. It looks like they’re headed in the right direction. Hopefully they get better at minimizing worker disruption and pay cuts.

It's intriging to see SF retheming Surfer into Georgia Goldrusher, after everyone thought that Dahlonega was going to get rethemed, all to then surpise us that it was actually SFOG's new Intamin Ultra Surf was getting retheamed. The last time where this such occurence happened was when SFGAdv retheamed their 4D free spin from Total Mayhem into Joker. Only diffrence I see is that the change from Surfer Goldrusher was seen as an upgrade, where as retheming from Total Mayhem into Joker was a downgrade due to SF constantly overusing DC characters when naming rides back in the day in the pre-merger era.

Retheme that area back into Pirates! Give the Joker a "Rough Seas" theme and paint it black and brown, and add some sails to the structure. Then give Blackbeard back his Lost Treasure Train and give some love to Skull Mountain. They already have a "tavern" nearby and could reopen the Chop Six location to fit the theme. One can dream...

I am really encouraged they are retheming the coaster AND working on the theming of Lickskillet too! It was always a well themed park in the past, and it would be great to see some of that restored.
