News Fright Fest 2026 Cancelled

After announcing Fright Fest and that the park is hiring more than 400 people for the event, it appears Six Flags has reversed course and cancelled the event. All mention of Fright Fest has been removed from Darien Lake's website and social media. The dates for Oktoberfest and Kids Boo Fest have also been scaled back.

Per other comments on reddit, customer service has confirmed the cancellation of fright fest (so it's much less likely to be a glitch), and the hotel isn't booking dates past September 27th.

I'm honestly surprised that an event as involved as Fright Fest ever made sense enough to run for only 5 days. Just the administrative cost and burden of having to hire up for the event alone seems like it would quickly become too much of an investment/hassle to make any sense.

I think many of us are expecting these contract parks within the Six Flags chain to go the way of the dinosaurs eventually, but even if the chain is planning to hold onto Darien Lake for the long hull, this sorta seems like a sensible choice to me regardless...?

Currently Discovery Kingdom, Darien Lake, and CGA are the only dry parks in the chain without job listings related to Fright Fest/Halloween Haunt/etc on the Six Flags website.

Unexpected update a few hours ago: Darien Lake's five operating days in October have been restored (though the days have been shortened to closing the park at 6pm...)

Six Flags Darien Lake is discontinuing Fright Fest this season as the amusement park says it's shifting its fall focus to family-friendly daytime events.

well, its was seen it was invitable, my guess that six flags is willing to give the park away (maybe to enchanted parks) after the 2026/2027 season
