We're thinking about making a weekend trip down to SDC this spring, and it looking like the flight situation is... less than great. Right now we're looking at flying down to Springfield and going from there, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if anyone here had advice. Is Springfield the right call, or would you recommend something else?

Springfield is a small newly renovated airport. It's easy to fly it and out but it is an hour from SDC. Are you planning to rent a car?

Unfortunately you'll have that problem no matter which airport you fly into only worse as they're all further away. You've either got to rent a car or eat that cost in an Uber.

Around Branson it is a pretty drive. Springfield is pretty flat. Do you know where you will stay? There are lots of great choices in Branson.

We haven't decided where to stay; still pretty early in the planning phase.

We rented a car this past December and made it by just fine. Uber from Springfield to Branson is more expensive than Ubering from Knoxville to Pigeon Forge. Branson traffic sucks though. The town is mostly 2 lane highways so traffic gets backed up if its remotely busy. Fortunately it doesn't get as busy as PF/Gatlinburg. SDC also has free parking!

Plus you can stop at Buc-ee's.

SDC is an amazing park. I like Dolly a bit more but I had a great time at SDC despite the coasters being down for half the weekend.

Just a heads up, if you fly into Springfield, there’s a fairly high chance you’ll be flying in on a CRJ900 if it’s through American Airlines. Those planes are not exactly large, so be aware.
