Firehouse BBQ Replacing Chick-Fil-A in 2023

I didn't see this posted yet. But it's interesting on the Planet Snoopy-side of the new restaurant how they just recently cut a new door into the side of the building:

Though the opposite side, near Boardwalk Fries, is still the same as it has been (for the moment at least), this certainly has peaked my curiosity of what they might be doing to transform the restaurant interior.

I would have hoped that a barbeque place would have a chicken item that wasn't tenders, but something bbq. FYI, chicken is the only thing on this menu I can eat. Or, rather, not only chicken tenders, which is fine, but also chicken from a bbq

Having chicken but not BBQ chicken at a BBQ place seems odd. But as a parent of a picky eater, chicken tenders are sometimes the only thing sustaining that kid through a theme park day.

While part of me wants to see fewer chicken tender options at seemingly every eatery -- just to force the issue of expanding one's palate a bit -- I also know the most likely outcome is a kid who just ends up not eating, forcing the choice between a few disappointing options a little while later. So I'll take the compromise.

(The other kid eats everything.)

The tweeted link includes a fictional back story of "Engine House 75," so a bit of nominal shrinkflation from the "Ladder 76" rumor. But 75 makes a lot more sense in context of the park's history. I assume this place and Racer 75 share the same reference to the park's opening year.

That would have been great if they had BBQ chicken, which is the best item I've ever had at a theme park. But with that location, yeah they really need tenders at the least, although some kids do like BBQ. It was ridiculous how many people got tenders at CK no matter how great the other offerings were. May have to do with being easy to split between people and costing a dollar less or so.
 
My hypothesis on not having chicken bbq is the reality that it’s actually challenging to keep bbq chicken moist and tasty while it sits. You basically have to store it in stock, which takes away the bbq flavor. Pork and brisket have much more fat content to keep their flavor making it an easier item to serve throughout the day.

Two things a kid friendly item is not a bad thing. One of the complaints I hear about Outpost and Grain and Grill is that some families have found it hard to get food there kids will willingly eat. Given it's close proximity to Planet Snoopy Tenders and Mac and Cheese seem like a reasonable way to try to appeal to that demographic.

The other is note the "hand breaded" part that is not common in most parks and opens up the possibility that chef has created some type of breading that would give them a unique and signature taste.

I think they're making a mistake with the name and logo design. A lot of the GP are going to confuse it with Firehouse Subs. The logo itself is too similar.

I was going to say they aren't that similar, but the color scheme is pretty similar, I'll admit. Still, I kinda doubt anyone is going to mistake it for a sub shop, and certainly not once they see what is on the menu.

Also, the physical appearance of the building will likely give away that it is not a sub shop. All of the Firehouse Subs buildings I’ve seen have been part of strip malls, never their own standalone locations.

It’s honestly been a pattern Even when I’ve been constructive. But to be constructive:
~They could have done a cool theme that was Peanuts and expedition together to bridge the two areas together. I feel like the generic firehouse is rather uninspired, and even less so since it’s a BBQ place. “Snoopy’s Base Camp Grill” has a nice ring to it and would be a nice nod to both places in between.
~Doing the fried chicken is odd as pointed out. I disagree with the reasoning is to do something for kids, especially combined with the hand breading part.
~The logo does seem like a Firehouse Subs ripoff and even if people wouldn’t assume they are the same thing but it comes off as lazy. But that ties back to the part of the theme feeing uninspired because there’s only so much you can do.

So yea, not loving this entire thing.

I don't feel like it's ripping off Firehouse Subs quite so much. But, it does feel unoriginal. Google "Firehouse BBQ" and take a look at just how many bbq joints out there share this exact same theme! Hell, back when KD did their Brews and BBQ event under Chef Paul a few years back, one of the vendors brought in even had a smoker built onto the back of a fire engine!
Still looking forward to the food, though!!!

Agreed on the food. Hope it ends up a 10/10 on food but feels like a 1/10 on theming.
 
Hmm a couple things, 1 yeah the logos share similarities but one has a black background and the other is red plus, the shapes are different and kds has a grill logo on top, and once people smell the bbq assuming the smell is strong enough people will know what it is. 2 if you think of that location as an extension of I-Street the theme makes perfect sense. It’s basically a little town, Literally a street of townhouses and shops, the Eiffel Tower, and then the firehouse down the street. Not too sure that’s what they were going for because the blog says “in planet snoopy” but if you think about it that way it makes a lot more sense, so ima choose to believe that’s the case😂
