Pompeii Photos was still closed this week (3/24/2012) as well. Was a bit strange not seeing the flash go off on that drop after all these years.
Perhaps the photo equipment is heading over to Verbolten...

It would make sense to leave it. Open it for high traffic days. Beside VBolt has the on ride video.

I think it's funny how few of the rides out there have photos.

We have flats with on ride photos in the UK, and ALL major coasters have photos. Only last year, they added cameras to a drop tower at Thorpe Park.

How audiences differ is so odd!

I just wish the photos were not so grainy. There's higher resolution cameras out there. Sometimes I get off the ride and look for the photo and I can't tell if it is me or the guy that robbed 7-11.

the photo shop at Pompeii was open this last weekend and when i went this morning it was as well. My nephews girlfriend has been working there for a bit and she says they dont have any plans to close it down anytime soon. Also wanted to note that the overhead fire effects have not been turned on once this season the 4 times i have rode it. You still hear the crackling sound, but no fire.

Pompeii has been experiencing technical difficulties this season. I heard that maintenance is constantly called to fix the effects.

In the continuing saga of You've Escaped (Pompeii) Photos... It was open last Saturday (I have pictures of it but am unable to post them as I am at work). I learned from an employee ( take it for what it's worth) that they too had heard the photo booth was supposed to close but management changed their mind.

also, Pompeii has bee messing up ALOT lately, it was done 4 hours on sunday...

We were walking by during the evacuation. Pretty crazy. Of course the boat on the lift was almost all little kids and old people. :s

Pompeii has been one of the best themed, most well executed park attractions for 15 years...

...so expect an announcement on plans to replace it with something that has nothing to do with Italy and only appeals to 6 year olds any day now.

It was down for 30-45 minutes or so in the Afternoon the day before, but it must have not been too major of an issue. I say this because they evacuated the ride by letting the stuck boats run through.

Not everything is being replaced for a younger crowd and no relavant theme. Why look at Entwined. Great German theme and has family appeal!

yes because, like other recent additions, Mach Tower and Verbolten have nothing to do with Germany and appeal to only 6 year olds. These two, terribly themed experiences, are clearly harbingers of a future where the park will de-theme itself as we slowly transition into a KD clone. Even look at Entwind! Like it or not, it's has a barely noticeable theme!

What was I thinking? Busch Gardens just keeps getting better. And better. And better. The placement of the sundial at Pompeii was really a superb touch; a masterstroke for Bush Gardens theming (if you'll forgive my slight towards Dine with Elmo, which is itself a monument to Busch Gardens' devotion to quality themed entertainment).

Well here are the pictures of Pompeii photos open this previous weekend. They aren't the best but you can't expect much from a camera released 5 years ago with a 1.3 megapixel camera.

Personally, I really admire how the sundial helps drive home the theme of a doomed archaeological excavation. Far better than all that old archaeological equipment and tents and shovels and stuff.

And to think, certain members around here say this place has theming issues and is going in the wrong direction. Just goes to show you: some people are never happy with anything.

Let me just say some things about Pompeii here.

I worked on that for quite a lot of time back in 2008. No other ride in the park is subject to more human error than Pompeii. Nearly every motion of a boat is controlled by 17 year old teenagers waiting for their next paycheck. That being said, most of these shutdowns you see are from them screwing up and the ride computer shutting itself down because of their mistakes. When this happens, the ride has to be reset and tested a few times before reopening. As for the effects. I worked there off and on from March till August of 2008, maybe out of all that time, twice were all the effects working properly. It has always been like that. This ride takes a lot to operate and can be very temperamental.

Here's the deal. That sundial is there so that during things like HS and CT that area can be a centerpiece. Remember how awkward santa looked there last year? Now seasonal props can be easily placed there turning it into a multi-use piece of land. I don't think the sundial is terribly. Yes, it's not as theme-y as what was there, but that's a small sacrifice to make to assure that that area of the park can look perfect for seasonal events.

Theming at BGW is on the up and up. Verbolten, Mach Tower (maypole theme is genius), Entwind, New Octoberfest, refreshed DarKastle, etc. I don't think putting a sundial in is the end of days.
