Six Flags Completes Sale of Six U.S. Parks to EPR Properties

April 06, 2026

  • Sale of Canadian Property La Ronde Expected to Close in Second Quarter
CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (NYSE: FUN) (“Six Flags” or the “Company”), North America’s largest regional amusement park operator, today announced the successful closing of the previously announced sale of six of its U.S. parks to EPR Properties (NYSE: EPR) (“EPR”), marking a significant milestone in the Company’s ongoing portfolio optimization strategy.
The six U.S. parks now owned by EPR are Valleyfair (Minnesota), Worlds of Fun (Missouri), Michigan’s Adventure (Michigan), Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston (Texas), Six Flags St. Louis (Missouri), and Six Flags Great Escape (New York). The sale of Six Flags La Ronde (Montreal, QC) is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026, following the satisfaction of applicable closing conditions and receipt of required approvals.
“This divestiture reflects Six Flags’ disciplined approach to portfolio optimization and the decisive action we are taking to concentrate our capital and operational focus on properties with the greatest long-term growth potential,” said Six Flags President and CEO John Reilly. “This portfolio refinement further positions Six Flags to execute more effectively in 2026 and beyond, and I am confident in the opportunities ahead as we continue taking steps to drive improved operating performance, margin expansion, free cash flow generation, and earnings growth.”
EPR intends to partner with Enchanted Parks to run the six domestic properties. EPR will retain the right to utilize the Six Flags brand through the end of 2026, subject to certain requirements, and no significant impact on guests is expected during this transition. The parks will continue their regular operating schedules, and all season passes sold will be recognized through the 2026 operating season, including multi-park pass privileges at other parks within the Six Flags’ portfolio.

Parks are full of AI shit now. Great Escape would be just as plagued with it under Six Flags as they will be under Enchanted. The difference is that Enchanted is small enough that they may actually care if people send them angry letters about AI art whereas Six Flags couldn't care less what people have to say as, to them, you're just a tiny number on a very, very large spreadsheet.

The bigger a corporation is, the more disconnected its leadership often becomes from the end product. Enchanted has a super uncertain future in my opinion, but I'd probably take that uncertainty over being a bottom-tier Six Flags park any day.

Alright.. I just hope Great Escape keeps it's good ways and not ruin Charles Wood's legacy. Six Flags did, hell they even colored the Flashback back to blue

I'm not gonna pretend to know the history of this park well enough to understand this reference, but given that Enchanted doesn't really have a brand right now, it may be an opportunity for them to reach back into the history of each park and use their pre-Six Flags identities to shape their futures. Obviously I can't promise you that'll happen, but it's what I'd do with a collection of unrelated amusement parks. I just hope they add more Swan Boats. I waited 30 minutes on a weekday but it was fully worth it

So Great Escape will have a good future under the Enchanted Parks?
Will it be "good" in that the park will stay open at least for the foreseeable future? Yeah, almost certainly. Will the park flourish into something greater than what it is now? Unlikely, but I'm not a fortune teller, so I don't know. The real question of course is whether or not GE is better off now than under Six Flags and no one really knows; not even the current or past owners can be sure what effect the changes will have. Will it benefit more from having Enchanted Forest on the season pass than it did having Darien Lake, New England and other SF parks? 🤷‍♂️

And I gave you a thumbs down on that post because it was kind of silly. I don't believe any of us know for sure what the future holds for Great Escape so you stating, with confidence, that the park was "doomed" seemed silly. If you have reservations about the park's future, considering the change in management and ownership, feel free to voice those concerns! I just think you'd get better reception by thinking out your posts a bit more, and adding more to these discussions.

This is a screen capture of the ticket prices for Six Flags St. Louis under Enchanted Parks. A couple of very cool things to see:
  • First, Hurricane Harbor is once again included in admission for day passes. This had been eliminated under Selim and had continued the past few years.
  • Second, look at how low that processing fee is. I hate processing fees, but in this day and age, $0.99 is extremely low. The fee was way higher under Six Flags. Even Holiday World charges a $6.99 processing fee for tickets purchased on their website. Very glad to see such low fees. I'm curious if WhiteWater West's Vantage platform has low fees that Enchanted Parks is passing along or if it is something different?

The above is a screen capture of parking prices for Six Flags St. Louis. Enchanted Parks has definitely lowered the cost of parking. I can't recall how long it's been since parking prices were this low.

These changes all seem very positive. I hope to see them across all of the Enchanted Parks, and I hope that customers reward the parks for these positive pricing changes.
