I still miss it every time I go into the park.Folks, it’s official, our first season without this ride hasn’t passed. Was it as bad as you though it would be?
I miss the ride, but it was time for change. I wish they would've refurbished it instead of ripping it out though, it still had lots of potential.I still miss it every time I go into the park.
It was routine for me, and things still aren't the same.
Any other ride I'd agree with you, but this ride is on a different playing field.Something something... rose colored glasses... something something
You mean a old tech moving dark ride? How is that?Any other ride I'd agree with you, but this ride is on a different playing field.
Oh c'mon don't act like this wasn't a classic. No matter how you try to break it down into categories, the effort put into it by a regional theme park was something you rarely see and should be commended by us if we ever hope to see another. You mean a old tech moving dark ride? How is that?
I refer you to my previous post. You have to admit it was a BGW classic, and the effort put into it by a regional Park should be commended. I don't wanna get into a debate about whether or not we like it. All i said is it deserves at least that credit. My opinions of this ride are not popular. I think at the time they built it was unusual and impressive if not re-rideable. I think it did not stand the test of time well at all. I think by the time they shut it down it was at least 8 years late. I believe this is a ride that people have massive rose tinted glasses they gloss over the horrid maintenance. I keep hearing about its potential but it seems half the cars did not work right. As I have said before the only reason I ever rode it was because my friends did. After riding it on opening weekend I could have gone my whole life and never ridden it again.
I recognise lots of others love it, I just don't understand why. There has to be more to a ride than a well developed castle.
From a personal standpoint I agree with you regarding rerideability (you also coined a new word). After riding the first time, subsequent rides always felt like watching a rerun. We always rode it anyway on each trip, both because it became the "thing to do," and it was a good way to get out of the heat for a bit.My opinions of this ride are not popular. As always someone else says what I want better than I. Other than AC I just don't get the appeal of dark rides to begin with, and other then creating fertal ground for puns, I am not sure what this one did.I'm kind of with @Zimmy - it was OK. The most I enjoyed it was the first time I got on it in 2007/2008 and every subsequent ride I cared less and less. The changes to the ride system were underwhelming and, I swear to Jesus (lord and my personal savior), half the time I was either standing in line or on the ride itself, it broke down. My (then) 8 year old nephew once extolled, "this ride is always broken." So true, little padawan, so true.
All that aside, I never got the fascination with the ride (let's say, even on it's best day). The story was ok and I'd be willing to give them a pass on it since they weren't cashing in on an IP and that's commendable - but it wasn't earth shattering. The acting and dialog were kind of terrible, if even in a good way. The pre-show reel was muddy and felt cheap. The effects aged way too quickly. Plus, wasn't it sold to the public as a ride that could be updated with new scenes and ride mechanics as time went on? Yeah, we know how well that worked, as in: neuter when possible - upgrade never!
I think the best part about the ride was the exterior.
Sorry, I just don't miss this ride. I've said this somewhere on the Forum before: I think DK is a case study in how not to operate a dark ride. Let's face it: dark rides are hard to design and even harder to maintain. BGW for whatever reason(s) didn't have the appetite for that.

Yes it was a ride at BGW but is there a time span for when a ride becomes a classic? Because to me this ride is not that old. But then again... Maybe it is just perspective. I like to think 25 years is classic at a minimum. This does not hit that mark, but again maybe there is a rule out there like the one for antique VA tags on cars. You have to admit it was a BGW classic...
what like participation awards? That is very 1st grade of you!...(the) effort put into it by a regional Park should be commended...
I'm not sure you can debate weather or not a person likes something. Preference is, by definition, subjective......I don't wanna get into a debate about whether or not we like it...

UncleDuncan FOR THE PEOPLE!Nah. You said it just right. I was just piggybacking with personal gripes.
