This seems like a sign that demand is lower than expected, no?

I expect Six Flags America to follow Hershey’s lead here given how much of a flop their reopening has been.

I’m not sure @Zachary because my conclusion was maybe people weren’t issuing it and just showed up anyways. Then again we could both be right so ?‍♂️

I’m not sure how comfortable I am with that. The parks are already taking a huge risk by even being open with little to no enforcement of safety. Allowing an indeterminate amount of people in is just throwing out one more method of spreading control.

I would think their capacity is remaining the same. Then again this is where my issues long ago that was scoffed at pop in. What if the parking attendants don’t know the park is at capacity and charge me $20 to park or in from 40 minutes away and drive there (personal costs). Am I supposed to just sit at the front gate and wait?

Daily ticket holders still have to get reservations. Hersheys did refunds for anyone that wanted it and it appears a lot of people in the Hershey's groups were doing so, so the number of season pass holders is currently low enough to make such a change.

Based on the ticket sales Hershey is having, they possibly aren't seeing expected sales.

So... Um... SeaWorld is having fireworks shows July 4th weekend. What could possibly go wrong...

Here is the email I got from SWO. I saw that SWSA is doing them, as well; SWSD is, of course, still closed.

SWO was very busy in the evening, they had tons of distancing markers everywhere and circles painted off in the grassy areas. I might write up my thought on all the parks this past week, some did really good, some not as much.

I have to assume that the number of HP season pass holders is lower than the capacity. So they can let season pass holders in every day, then the remaining capacity is up for others via reservation. I'd think this would tend to reduce the number of people, not increase it. Certainly not every SP holder is going to go every day, yet the reservations allowed are lowered because of the total number of sp holders.

But it also sounds like the number of people willing to go to a park is lower than the parks guessed it would be.

Michigan’s Adventure will NOT open this season. However, their water park, WildWater Adventure, will be opening next week.

I believe this is the first dry Cedar Fair park to announce that they will not open this season.

A bunch of Six Flags parks, maybe all of them, are not going to open on certain days of the week. Starting the week of July 19th, Six Flags America will no longer be open on Mondays. Six Flags St. Louis won't be open Monday and Tuesday and reduced hours other days. SFoG also is doing the same kind of thing. These parks would appear to not be getting the crowds they hoped for. I think a lot of people are still pretty hesitant about going to parks. I have this from a screeshot:

Rereading it, this is just going on the apps. So there's no telling yet if this is semi-permanent or not. But it certainly makes sense. I imagine Hershey Park might end up doing this too if crowds don't pick up with the above noted change.

Staffing seems to be a big limiting factor right now. Closing a slow day or two helps solve both the staffing on busier days and attendance too low on certain days problem. Until the parks get the bulk of their park open, it’s really hard to drive attendance beyond season pass holders who will tolerate half the park being closed at any given time.

Yikes. Is this the first known case of COVID from inside a theme park?

Nope.

It’ll be far from the last too. Every selfish guest not wearing their mask over their nose that one of these poor employees has to interact with is another potential infection. There are a lot of risky COVID-era jobs out there, but I swear theme park operations has to be one of the riskiest. Having to enter hundreds of people’s personal space every hour checking restraints or the like? Terrifying.

I hope that people aren’t surprised by this. People don’t really think it’s safe to go out and I don’t necessarily disagree. Parks are going to have to band together and be strict if they want to be considered safe.
I think it's at least as much a factor that it doesn't sound very fun. If it was as annoying as going shopping has been lately, I wouldn't consider going back to a park.
