I tried searching amazon for foaming hand sanitizer and all it turns up is foaming hand soap. Where do you get this stuff? I suppose this could just be a case if it all being sold out, but I think there'd be an "unavailable" link or two.

Hand sanitizer is legitimately sold out everywhere. I was looking online and in stores for my parents.

That said, I'm not sure I've seen foaming except in wall mounted dispensers.

Well the idea of returning home is great unless there are already infected students, then you have just made it worse and spread it to all parts of the state. However it will be more likely to spread in more densely populated college towns. There are two sides to this coin.
The problem with Milan was that they didn't recognize the cluster soon enough and it spread to most of Europe and the US before they shut down travel. There were still flights from Milan to London as recently as this weekend. It is interesting how most of the west coast clusters originated in China but east coast was related to Italy and Iran.

While this is 100% true keep in most universities are run like businesses. By keeping students on campus; the university would be taking on a serious liability in the form of potential lawsuits from students.

So while a quarantine in place might be the more medically sound choice; the most logical business choice is to mitigate the financial risks by closing campus.

Sad, but true.

Yikes. Not a good day for COVID-19 news.

Considering a bunch of local schools are closing/moving online (VCU, JMU, VT, UVA, etc.) because of it AND a case was found 10 minutes away from Doswell today, I highly doubt we’ll see Kings Dominion open on time. ?

While this may suck, safety does come first and I hope that both KD and BGW make decisions that keep guests’ health in mind.

Piggy backing on everything being said:

It's obvious shit's going to get worse before it gets better (at least that was my takeaway from today's briefings). Some words of advice - Practice caution, limit your contact with people, and wash your hands even if you think you haven't touched anything contaminated. Purell also if you have it.

From my perspective, if you are able to flex your power and work from home, now's the time to cash in. If it was up to me, we'd all be on lockdown only running essential services because every indication (Italy, China, India, etc.) leads me to believe we are about to hit a widespread, long lasting epidemic the likes of which we haven't experienced in modern times.

Enjoy your for-profit medical system wholly unequipped to handle a nationwide emergency!

But, hey! This could solve KD’s early season staffing problem! They won’t have the issue of everyone being away at school! (jk)

More then just sold out we had people stealing the wipes that we have out for our customer's use and even trying to take the bottles that we have for our cashiers so that they can sanitize between customers.

The thing that really blows my mind is that while ever type of liquid soap that is antibacterial and every hand sanitizer is gone people are not touching the bars have we forgotten how to use those?

Am I alone in thinking these precautions should be standard practice? Particularly about sending sick employees home promptly and asking them to stay home when sick?
I agree. What stops the practice is company's sick leave policies and pay. A lot of people live pay check to pay check and can't afford to miss work. So they work thru sickness to pay the bills and feed the family. And a cook at Trappers can't work from home.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't be cautious and that this isn't serious but I think that on the whole we are overreacting to this.

Infections like this are able to spread because people don't take basic precautions like washing their hands and using hand sanitizer all the time. Maybe I'm weird because I wash my hands a lot and have always carried some hand sanitizer with me.

Instead I see people freaking out and buying every single thing of hand sanitizer and soap bottle they can which means that others who might need them won't have it. I have Facebook friends who have posted pictures of at least 50 bottle of hand sanitizer and soap that they have stocked up on because of the virus.

I think we should all be cautious and take care but I just think that as a whole we are taking it farther than we need to right now.

If they aren't paying their employees to stay home then, frankly, it's an empty gesture on their part. It's not really much of a "choice" on the employee's part if they lose wages. Who knows, maybe they will pay them.

I posted about this in for selections update but apparently SEAS is temporarily suspending some projects for which capital has not yet been spent.

This seems like a solid practice to put some projects on hold until SEAS has a good handle on what the actual impacts will be.
